Glock 21 mags won't drop

Has anyone had issues with Glock magazines that won't drop clear when empty? This is an early one and it went back to the factory twice for feeding problems but we never discussed the magazines. Years ago I had a neighbor that was a Pasadena cop and he told me some of their .40 Glocks had that problem and he offered to let their armorer fix it but it never happened. I never even heard if it was a gun problem or a mag problem. I figure it's something that got fixed on the later ones but I think it was more common on the older ones. It's not something I'm gonna lose sleep over but if there is an easy fix I'll do it.

Glock has drop free and non drop free mags. I believe that the non-drop free mags were standard on the older versions and the new versions all come with drop free mags. I would check to see which mags you have, the solution may just be swapping mags.

This should help out: http://www.glockfaq.com/content.aspx?ck ... nformation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have four 13 rd and one 10rd. The 13 rd ones are as old as the gun, around 1990 or 91. I never heard there were 2 different types, I always assumed everyone wanted them to drop free when empty, not that I would let mine hit the ground. My neighbor had given me the impression it required a modification.

Very interesting. I haven't heard of this until now. Thank you for the post!

The European's like the non drop free mags because of the bitter cold over there in the winter. With heavy gloves on it is very easy to hit the magazine catch by accident if you have a non drop free mag you give it a tap and go on about your business drop free mags leave you unloaded. It is easy enough to train to strip the mag during a mag change.

Not much problem with that here. Hey Mojo, you know Larry Gray in Vidor?

As the good pics shows, they are NFML and FML, not drop-free and non-drop-free.

I have had FMLs that did not drop fully and NFML mags that did :mrgreen:

I usually go to yank them out, but I'm also a "slide slingshot" VS slide stop kind of guy.

Non-drop-free mags are the reason there is an opening in the rear of the magwell - you can stick your finger in the hole to pull the mag out. The first Glocks were all non-drop-free, per military specifications for the original design.

That might explain mine then. It's a pretty early one.
