Pro-CHL REALTOR® in Houston

As a pro-CHL REALTOR® in the Houston area, I've had some interesting experiences.

I almost always carry, but rarely does the topic ever come up with clients. Many of my close friends know of my persuasions, but most of my clients have no idea.

My work has put me into a few neighborhoods that are somewhat sketchy, and there have been times I've been happy to know that Mr. LCP is along for the ride.

I've had questionable people come up to me in neighborhoods, but have avoided any kind of conflict.

The awareness training that I've had helps to stay knowledgeable of my surroundings too. If a home is vacant when I'm showing it, I'll lock the door behind us after we enter, in case someone were to follow us. I'm always on the alert as I go through vacant homes, just in case there is a threat present. Of course, the trick is not let clients know I'm always on the alert.

I do hope I never have to draw.

Thanks everyone for this outstanding forum!

My wife is a Realtor and she has carried for . . . well for a very long time. Only once has a client recognized one of her Galco purses for what it is and this client is a Secret Service Agent. He looked at her purse and said, "that's a very nice purse and very functional too." His wife said, "okay, what's up with that? You don't care about purses." He then told her what it was for and everyone got a good laugh.

I've tried for years to get her to carry on her person, but I'm still losing that fight. I'd be a shame to die 10 feet from your gun because your attacker took her purse away from her at the beginning of the fight. :totap:

I know EXACTLY how you feel blc. Just last week I was showing houses, we pulled up in front of a short sale/preforclosure and there was some guy standing in the driveway near a pickup. Thought it might be another Realtor (happens from time to time that you show up to show a house while another Realtor is already there), but I went into condition orange VERY QUICKLY when I got a good look at the guy and realized he wasn't an agent (certainly didn't dress the part). Luckily, it turns out, he was a "co-owner" of the house (an obvious investment property gone wrong and soon to be taken by the bank). But it was just another in a long line of "glad I had my gun on me just in case" situations.

Whew. Glad you put the ® after "Realtor", wouldn't want these forums to get sued or anything. :)
