Come check out Champion Firearms, on Texas and Holeman. The owners, mike and katie do an excellent job teaching the CHL class. They run a clean shop, and are just over really neat people to know. Their prices are fair, and thier staff knowledgeable and helpful. And they enjoy it when you come in just to say hi and talk about whatever.

Real nice indoor range too, nice and cool, good lead filters, safe place. Good assortment of rentals. Student discounts on range memberships.

I was in there a couple of weeks ago. I have to agree with everything but the owners as I have not met them. It was disappointed to find that the store was closed on Sunday although the range was open.

My wife has family in CS and Champions provides a much needed inlaw break.

The owners are there almost all the time. Mike is they way tall guy, usually in a yellow shirt, brown coat.

Once a month they do a CHL class on sunday. Other than that, they should take the day of rest!

I totally agree on all said, I took my class there and everything was great. I also bought a Kimber Ultra CDPII from Mike. Both he and Katie, seem to be good folks. The only problem I have with the range is you cannot draw from a holster, so going there is not much good for training in my book. To me just standing there shooting rounds is just a way to make noise, and burn money unless you are a bulls eye shooter.

Anytime you can work on trigger, sights, proper grip, etc, is good training time. You can also work on mag reloads, malfunction clearance drills, etc.

I can't comment on their CHL class, but I will heartily second the praise due their wonderful staff. Knowledgeable, helpfull, and they don't pressure you into a purchase. That's why my wife bought her first handgun there.

This could be a freak experience. I go in there regulary and fondle stuff all the time that I have no intention slash means of purchasing.

Might try them again, or go tell mike and katie about your impression, they will for sure set it straight.

I've mixed feelings about them.

I called them a few days ago for an AR15 lower and the lady who picked up the phone sounded like I was an annoyance. She was rude and just didn't sound pleasant. One or two word answers, etc. Sometimes as I apporach someone to see an item they just walk away.

Today I went to the range and the guy working the counter there was nice though. He seemed to remember me, too; he said that it had been a while since I've been there, which it had.

BTW, does anyone know if they'll do transfers now? They didn't the last time I checked.

Over a year ago or so, my dad passed down his gold cup and they did it no problem. It was like 20 or 25 bucks, and they were extremely helpful.

Mike enjoyed it as well.

Mike is a nice enough guy... as for the others, I have a different opinion on them. I've been asked to leave because I wasn't planning on buying that day (which I actually was, but didn't feel like being pressured, I just wanted to take my time looking around). I went down the road to Burdett & Son's, next to Chili's and haven't looked back since. I enjoy everything about the store much more.

Seems to be a lot of that now days. I called Carter's Country Wednesday asking about a gun from Charter Arms, first the gentleman told me they didnt sell them. Then he look in his book and saw they did. I started asking questions about what was in stock at their distributor and he was getting upset with me by then. Eventually I told him what I wanted and that Charter Arms said he could order it direct from them and he told me he didnt do that. So I asked the same of South Texas Tri Pods and I had the pistol the next day! Go Figure

I have bought about 7 firearms from Champions and even more accesories over the years. I also took my CHL there. I like everything about the store. As far as the phone thing all I can say is that their phone rings a lot so don't be suprised if they are quick to want to get off, they are also very busy all the time. Customer service sometimes falls by the way side if your running a busy store, so if you have had a bad experience then I would just try again. They are a great very well priced store!

I bought my CZ2075 rami from Texas tri pods very nice folks there
and very helpful , the owners wife was right there when I filled out the
paper work to make sure there were no mistakes that could cause a delay
or problems.
when I'am ready for another firearm I will probably check them out first.
