I like Don Hume's stuff as well. Have a look, those are your options for your 442.

I like the "First Agent" and "J.I.T. Slide" for OWB, they offer a few IWB also. The prices on their main site are a bit inflated, you can expect to pay about 1/2 of what they have posted. I paid $14 for the "First Agent" and $12 for my "J.I.T. Slide".
Since I just moved here I'm not sure of where you can buy locally. I bought all of mine at a place that was close to me while in Ohio. If your interested and can't find anything locally PM me and I will get you the info, they will ship flat-rate($9 up to 70lbs.) and keep tons of gear in stock at good prices. Goodluck!

I use a Galco Horsehide Pocket holster for my 642. It will last you a lifetime.
You should keep an eye on EBay. They pop up from time to time. That's where I found mine.
Here's a pic.

Most pocket holsters are cheap and get the job done well. I have three: a Desantis Nemesis, Mika's, and an Uncle Mikes. I'm pleased with all of them, but if forced to pick just one would go with the Mika's (all ~$20).
I do have a nice High Noon holster for my J-Frame, the Public Secret. I mostly keep this in my truck to use when need be, but if I'm carrying IWB, I usually go for a semi-auto.

Well, Midway has the Galco pocket holster on backorder, but due in, in a couple of weeks. I have one and used it quite a bit until I got a Kramer. I still use it for pants and shorts that have a really wide pocket. Mika pocket holsters are great, too, but you'll have to wait a bit. The price can't be beat on those. I'd say, order what you want, and use what you have in the meantime. I don't know a single thing about IWB.

What's wrong with your cheap holster? If we know that we can suggest a holster that doesn't do that.

its a little on the thick side. i'm thinking of just getting a glock 26 or 27 to carry iwb. went and shot it today and its like trying to hold down a demon for a baptism and i have large hands. maybe i just need to get some different grips.

Grips make a big difference.
Here's an article that will help:

If you're not fat, a j-frame usually hides well in a tuckable appendix holster.

Check out Kholster. They are about half the price of an MTAC or Supertuck and just as good(atleast anyone I know that has tried them all has said so). Their warranty is also great, you can even modify it however you like(trim the leather etc.) and if your still not satisfied they return your money 100%. I love mine.

A good option for carry is with the Werner set-up. It used a hip grip, Tyler T adapter, and a hogue handall

I've got a S&W 442, and I think I carry it more than my Kimber 1911 in hot weather. I have an el-cheapo Uncle Mike's IWB holster I use around the house (because it just clips to my shorts), and for going out in public I'm really liking my "Bodhi" IWB holster made by Monica Kuehn. Her website can be found at:
http://monicakuehnleather.blogspot.com/ The Bodhi holster is very easy to put on and take off without getting halfway undressed, and with a J-Frame it just disappears under an un-tucked tshirt.

Completely satisfied with my Uncle Mike pocket holster for my 12 oz J-frame. Otherwise, I use my High Noon IWB for my 9 mm.
