Can the TR-100 form be used outside of Tx?

Q: Does anyone know if I can I use a copy of my TR-100 form as proof of "handgun training" when applying for a permit in another state?

Colorado for example says this:

C.R.S. 18-12-203:
(h) Demonstrates competence with a handgun by submitting (with the application):
(VI) A training certificate from a handgun training class obtained within the ten years preceding submittal of the application. The applicant shall submit the original training certificate or a photo - copy thereof that includes the original signature of the class instructor. In obtaining a training certificate from a handgun training class, the applicant shall have discretion in selecting which training class to complete.

It would be nice not to have to lay out another $150 for another "training" course, but will my Texas documents suffice for the bureaucrats someplace else?

Both fact and speculation welcomed. Thanks :tiphat:

It is going to depend on the state. If you're after a particular state, just give their CHL section a call to find out for sure.

Does anyone know, will Florida accept it if the Texas CHL instructor isn't NRA certified? Sorry, not trying to take it off the main topic but it might be pertinent.

I think this question also applies to Virginia and there may be other states as well.

After a protracted haggle, Maine accepted my TR-100 in lieu of an NRA Basic Handgun safety class certificate. I also had to cough up a letter from a local LEO testifying to my safety/sanity/GG status.

FL will accept the TR-100/CHL-100 regardless of NRA certification.

Interesting info. I might have to apply for my Florida license so that I have a backup in case of a lost or stolen Texas license. Thanks.

Colorado for example says this:
Colorado took mine. When I asked if a photocopy is O.K., she said: "I want to copy from the one with the original signature of the instructor." I had suspected that and had it with me. But, since the CHP is issued by the county, the requirement for an original signature may vary from county to county. The 10 year rule applied. I have since renewed it there without a class or certificate. Why-oh-why do we have to take the class over and over here in the great state of Texas?

TX CHL 1997
CO CHP 2005

Ah. I will look at a different state for a backup then. Thank you.

I have done a little looking and from what I saw, Florida does not honor Texas non-resident permits but so far, I cannot find anything indicating that Texas does not honor Florida non-resident permits. Might you have any direction to point me as to where I can find this information, and more importantly, which states' non-resident permits are accepted in Texas?

I went to the DPS reciprocity page and it says nothing of the sort

If you're making a claim like that, I presume you can back it up with something at least as reputable as the Texas DPS reciprocity webpage.

This is incorrect. Texas does honor non-resident licenses from Florida or other states it has reciprocity with. Florida does not honer any non-resident licenses other than their own (Florida's)
