Road/Air Trip

Been doing the search thing but not finding really ther answers that I need.

Here's the situation: I may have to fly to Nevada to assist my parents drive their RV back here (Texas). My dad had a heart
attack (looks like he will be fine) and I would like to drive the RV back to Texas. He says after a week or two he will be fine.
He feels he can probably do it but that is a big argument for later.
They have a 38 special and a shotgun on board. But I would like to bring my G27+a 15rd spare "motel mag" along for the ride.

I have never traveled on a plane with a gun in bagage. I understand the locked hard case containing the unloaded gun. I guess empty mags are no problem. Does the ammo have to be in a factory box. If so, is a 50rd box of the Speer GDHP's a problem vs a 20rd box. Assuming I have the TSA requirement satisfied, my issue is in Nevada.

If I read the reprocity map right, my CHL is no good. And here is my main concern.......as long as I keep my gun locked up..
I can legally leave the airport to the RV park?? Where does the ammo need to be in relation to the locked gun?
I assume it is OK to leave the airport with my gun(locked up..ammo seperate) in baggage to get to my Mom's car or a rental?

Does the castle doctrine apply? in Nevada? Car wise?...Once in the RV, that is considered a home and would apply.Right?

Thanks in advance.

You're on the right track. As long as the ammo container keeps each bullet in its own space, it's fine. In other words both the factory ammo box or a reloader's ammo box are fine. While some airlines are okay w. loaded mags (if the top round is covered, like in a mag holder) others object. Easiest is to just pack the mags unloaded.

Correct.

Unloaded gun & ammo in the trunk is okay in every state that I'm aware of.

yep

That's my understanding, but please do check the laws specific to each state. I'd be more confident about having the loaded gun at hand in the vehicle when it's parked (under castle doctrine) than when you're driving down the freeway.

I found these links that may be of interest to you.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/ ... _1666.shtm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USRVCarCarry.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The second has car and RV carry laws from state to state and specifically states:

"Nevada law is silent on carrying firearms in vehicles. Any citizen who can own a firearm may
carry it their vehicle. There is no way for the average citizen to get an official answer to this
question. Do be advised that local governments may have regulations against carry in a vehicle
without a permit. North Las Vegas and Bolder City are two cities that have such laws. There
could be more. Use extreme caution."
