So hear goes...(Y'all know I am fearless)...

I do not watch a lot of TV, my time is better spent cleaning, mowing, cooking, laundry...etc etc...

If you watched it...What was the most interesting thing(s) about that new show "Jericho" that caught your attention???

I'll list my stuff later...And this show, in my opinion, is not too off the beaten path of certain aspects of what our community deals with and discusses...

I was almost not going to post this, but then again, I am fearless... ;-)

Bottom line...

in an emergency/natural disaster you should be prepared to take care of YOURSELF for at least several days.

I am not a survialist by any stretch, but I have a Bug out plan, bug out gear and a communications plan.

What amazed me was how long it took for them to have a mild form of civil unrest start at the town gas station...30 minutes into the show...

I figure in real life, we'll have about 10 minutes...

That was just one thing I noticed...

Don't get me wrong...I'll give the show creators some credit for developing a program that does touch upon some serious stuff...

I'm glad its not all about the "crazy" survivalists, or what they would call "gun nuts"... ;-)

There is some good writing and character development in a few of the actors roles that deserve some accolades...

I think this is worth at least one hour a week for the next month...

I did not know there was a new show called Jericho. I sure don't watch TV. My time is better spent doing anything than watching TV.

I guess that includes roaming forums and reading/participating in TV related threads? Why even waste the post just to climb up on a soapbox?

I actually intended to watch this show, but missed it. I'm going to have to be sure to catch it next week. Sounds like a good program that will serve as a reminder to all who watch that a Bug Out Plan is always an excellent idea and that we can't depend on the government to always take care of everything for the herd.

Longtooth -- I believe you are in violation of the laws of the Republic of East Texas which requires all males living east of Dallas and west of Shreveport to own a jon boat and fish at least 10 times a year.

LOL.

I watched the show. I think it was an accurate portrayal of what would happen, but the difference is that was a tiny homegrown type town, everyone knows the mayer, etc. In a place like garland I figured we'd have about 15 minutes before the place went to HIAHB.

I'd like to say I have a bug out plan, but pretty much we don't. Don't have room to store stuff like that. I have in my head what I'd grab, and wife and I have discussed reactions to natural disasters as well as an attack like that. I am not prepared in the way I'd like to be, but as I pay off bills that will change.

Sir I must plead guilty. Only time I go to a fishing hole is when I take the Grandones to a farm pond & even then I dont have my own rig. No boat, no rod & reel, no pole, no tackle box. Just dont care to fish or watch TV. Rather go to the loading room. That is why a single stage RCBS is all I need.

Now hunting, shooting, & hunting something to shoot is different story. About 4,000 a yr through the .45 & then SOME through .38 sp, .40 S&W, .380, .22, .308, 300WSM. HUMMMMM, no wonder I don't have time to fish or watch TV. :seeya: Happy :fire :fire

I recorded the show last night and watched it back this afternoon.

One main thing that stands out above everything else to me was how fast ordinary people were willing to turn on one another. I was accostumed to that in police work, but this show depicts ordinary citizens in a small town.

The will to survive is strong in all of us, but as the show points out, too many are willing to submit to 'mob mentality'. Kinda what happened in New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Just as in the Katrina tragedy, this new TV show will really point out the need to be prepared. Things like food, supplies, water, gas, flashlights, batteries, and for a lot of us, weapons and sufficiant ammunition, could easily become our tools for survival.

At least after we get some rain...Our lakes up there are looking mighty pitiful...

Remember, your worse day fishing is better than your best day at work, or fooling around in internet chat forums...

Thank ewe very much...Ahm here all week!!!

I believe the discussion proves a general idea that I have regarding "our" community as a whole...

- we are prepared

- we have a plan

- and we have friends we know that think and act like we do when the time is right

For the most part, watching a TV program like this reminds us to some extent that we have it generally in one sock...

I kinda like what the mayor said at the end of the episode...(thanks to what I figure is good script writing)

"I trust you folks! Don't break my heart again!" (basically)

Heard of the show, but haven't seen it. May have to check it out. I lean towards non-fiction myself, although I do love shows like Firefly.
