Want Taurus 1911?

FYI:
I just handled one at 9:55 AM, 9/29/06 at Tomball Pawn, Tomball TX.
They have ONE, they want $439 for it. It is not in the display case. You have to ask for it.

I was just wandering around looking at guns and overheard the salesman tell a guy they just got one in. I looked at it. It was big black and heavy. I've never had a 1911, so I can't tell you anything.

Most 1911 are big and black. That is unless you are looking at the stainless model or a compact model. I like heavy guns because they steady my shots. Then again, I'm not doing too shabby with my light weight Glock.

The one pawn shop in my town that deals in handguns also sells new handguns. I am sure that is the price of a new one, since I've seen posts about them running as little as $399.

I'm intrigued by these 1911's from Taurus, but I think I'll wait and see what others think as they make their way into users' hands. Plus I'm so broke right now that I'm not sure how I'll pay all my bills for October. Switching daycares (for my 6 month-old, not me ) stinks.

It is a NIB fresh from the factory Taurus 1911, for $439!!
More FYI: Tomball Pawn is a rather large gun store. They have one entire display case, 5' wide with two shelves that is almost all 1911's. From Rock Island's @ $3xx.00, up thru Colts and Kimbers. (I don't pay much attention to the 1911s)

They also had a Kahr P45 over in the display with the Glocks & Springfield XDs

Also NIB Kel-Tec P3AT, P32 and a P11.

It's normal to see 5-10 new ARs, a few Aks and 12 ga. "riot guns"(new)

They have a lot of new guns and a lot of used also.

I stop off once every couple of months to "Sight See". And it has cost me a time or two.

Well, anyway, I thought sombody might like to here about the Taurus 1911, from what I read on the internet they are hard to find and $439 is an excellent price.

Methinks they will sell as many as they can make at that price. I'd love to see a Commander-sized version come out.

MSRP for the blued Taurus is $617, and the stainless is $634.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them going for $439, unless the demand is too high and the supply too constricted.

I've only had mine a week but I love it.

It has a lot of features, not normally found on a low cost 1911.

Great sights, very nice trigger, forged slide and frame and it ate 200 of my reloads without a hiccup.

Kim du Toit, on his forum, writes about his. He's fired over 1000 rounds without a cleaning and nary a problem. He's run all kinds of ammo, including various JHP's and crappy reloads.

To put things in perspective, I have a Kimber Eclipse Pro, a stainless Springfield Loaded with an Actions by T action job, a Springfield Champion, and an Auto Ordnance (Kahr). They rest in my safe. All of them required extra work or factory returns to be as reliable as the PT1911 is right out of the box.

I bought mine during Carter's 'Free Finance' sale and paid $549.

When you find one at a good price, don't hesitate!

Even at $549, Carter sold the three they had in less than an hour.

Heard a report from one of the other buyers. He's just as pleased as I am.

Mike, what do you think about those Heinie "Straight 8" sights?

I can see where they would work well once you're used to them. But as an old three-dot guy, I can also see where getting used to them would take some time.

Eh? If the firing pin safety doesn't involve either the trigger or grip safety, then how does it work?

I guess they might take some getting used to. However, they are functionally the same and almost identical to the dot/bar sights on my PM9, K40, and P45 Kahrs.

I have another K40 with 3-dot night sights, but they are all green. Misalignment, although extreme, could happen. I have always thought that with 3-dot night sights, that front and rear should be different colors. If you've got an orange between two greens, you know you're good to go.

Misalignment would seem impossible with the Heinie's or the dot/bar sights that Kahr uses. I like them.

I can only attest that the TSS doesn't affect the trigger.

I have been studying the parts list and illustration for the PT1911.

From what I can tell, there are no parts of the Security System that are not included in the hammer. It would appear than the lock simply locks the hammer in a down or at rest position.

At most, the lock might affect interaction with the hammer strut.

Anyway, in my case, the key is safely stored (forever) in the plastic box.

The same is true for my wife's M85UL. Once I satisfied myself that it was either firmly locked on, or firmly locked off, I locked it off and put the keys in the box.
