This post is a follow up to a thread started by AndyC on Wed. Aug 18, 2010 1:41 pm titled "Web Photos That Reveal Secrets, Like Where You Live."

Here's a quote from AndyC: “We all like to take pics of our firearms, perhaps with our GPS-enabled cellphones - but we might also be letting people know whereabouts we live, too.” This was true for me -- I had forgotten about the iPhone camera location settings.

AndyC also provided the following URL, "that will allow you to upload an image and it will show you all the data in the pic - and automatically bring up Google Maps to show you where it was taken." http://regex.info/exif.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the original thread many people who tried the URL did not get the Google map. However, I tried the above URL with a photo taken on my iPhone 3GS that I had saved on my computer, and that website brought up a Google map that pin-pointed the location where the photo was taken!

Here are the steps to disable the iPhone GPS data: Tap on Settings, then General, then Location Services (which will be ON if GPS data is being saved in your photos) and select Camera to “OFF.”
Thanks very much to AndyC for making this information known. :tiphat:
