It Might be the Grip - 1911 Update

williamkevin recently purchased a really nice Kimber. I had been looking for one for myself, but after I shot his, I didn't really want one. It was uncomfortable for me to shoot. I can't describe it...it didn't hurt, don't mind recoil so much, but whatever it was, I didn't like it. Some of the members here at the forum suggested I try I different grip. I was willing to try most anything because I do like the 1911s. One member in particular offered up a set of Hogue grips that would fit and even was so nice as to deliver them to my house. (I will admit here that I was a bit skeptical that they would help.) williamkevin put the grips on and I FINALLY got the opportunity to give it a try this weekend. I was really surprised that the grips made so much of a difference. I actually enjoyed shooting the gun this time and I'm happy to report that the Kimber is back on my list of guns I'd like to have.

Thanks rm9792 for those grips. You were right! ;-)

Were the grips thinner, thicker, softer, pinker, what? :bigear:

I know you did NOT just ask me if they were pinker!!! :totap:

I can't really specify what was different. I think they're thicker and the surface isn't a slick one. :confused5

I put the Hogue wrap around grip with the finger grooves on my Colt Commander.

Cause that makes it feel almost as good as my GLOCK.

Ditto on my Kimber Ultra, and they feel better than my wife's Glock.

The rubber also absorbs some recoil energy that would otherwise be transmitted to your hands.

I've got the same grips and like them a lot.
