So do you now carry while you jet ski? Very sad.

My step-father is a semi-pro bass fisher and has seen "pirates" down there first hand. He knows several of the fishers and guides that have been held up while on the lake. Apparently, the cartels have pushed some of the smaller dealers out of business so they do this instead. He no longer goes to tournements on the Rio Grande. It is far passed the time for the USA to take more offensive measures with these thugs.

For years, I and some others on this board (who came from/also post texaskayakfisherman.com forums) carry while fishing in our kayaks, paddling our little plastic boats by water moccasins, rattlesnakes, gators, other wild critters while portaging, Banjo Music, and now pirates.

Your description reminded me of taking the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride in Disneyland. Only packing.

Wow, that's just a wanton killing. They just pulled alongside and started banging away.
How much could they steal from a couple on a jetski? When I'm on mine I might have my DL and $40, tops.
Maybe they wanted the boat?
I don't keep a firearm on my jetski, since I'm usually on COE lakes.
But I do keep a flare pistol with lots of amm]D]D]D] ... flares. For emergencies

I'm going to need to do research, but how could this be a pirate that shot these folks; how would you steal from a person on a jet ski? Isn't piracy about murder and theft. And how can there be pirates in a lake? I thought the whole thing about being a pirate was that you steal and kill where there is no law enforcement and a really big area to escape and hide (the ocean). How does a person or group consistently kill and rob in an area that is small enough to be patrolled. Maybe I'm not aware of the size of this lake, but can these folks kill, rob, and then sail their boat around in an area that's large enough to hide from law enforcement? You would think that they would have to dock their boat and re-begin fresh each day.
Can there be lake pirates?

One shore is Texas, with law enforcement.
The opposite shore is Mexico, with no law enforcement.
Obviously these bandits have fast boats that can run with a jetski. All they have to do is head for the Mexican shore and they're home free.

Thanks-That makes sense. Now my question is why get into a body of water that borders Mexico. Sounds like it's too dangerous to drink or swim in.

You don't understand Mexico. These ''pirates" might even BE the law enforcement or they might cut the law enforcement in on the take in exchange for looking the other way.

I don't think thats a lake I would ever go out on. Dangerous folks, but the risk of floating into Mexico with my gun would prevent me from carrying. Yep, I think Ill go somewhere else.
