Trying to get my renewal set up during the summer that is going to be very busy.
Does anyone have an idea when the DPS will update their site?

I'm hoping they get their online renewal up and running before then. It's supposed to be coming, soon.

This just in.
First off, Jeanne the DPS Firearms Secretary went way above the call of duty to find an answer for me.

We shot emails back and forth all day trying to get an answer. She forwarded it to someone that couldn't even put together a grammatically correct sentance...even by my standards. That didn't appease her and she went higher (I guess). Finally she got the answer that SHE wanted and forwarded it to me.
From an office in Austin that Jeanne finally kicked my email to,
Only those who expired in 2009 are eligible to renew. If they JUST took the class in 2010, they won’t be eligible until they get notification from the Dept. that it’s time to renew and that won’t be until sometime next year.
Guess that settles that. I'll look forward to them contacting me.

Jeanne

I think what this means is that those instructors whose certifications expired in 2009, and did not renew before Dec 31, can renew in 2010.
All the rest of us are still on the odd numbered year renewal cycle, and renewal classes will be held sometime after the end of the legislative session, as always.
And, on that note, when those renewal schedules come out, I think you we should do a better job than we did in 2009 of getting a group together to sign up for and enjoy the same renewal class. This means you and me, CompVest!
You think DPS could handle both of us, and our significant others, in the same class?

Hmmm, I just remembered, aren't we supposed to be able to renew our instructor certs ONLINE now? Meaning, no more going to Austin?
This sure puts a crimp in the party plans....

That's what I thought (renew online). Do we have to wait until July (6 months prior to expiration) before we can renew?

Remember the reason for the ODD year expiration/renewal cycle is the fact that DPS wants to wait until the end of the legislative session and after the laws passed therein become effective which is usually September 1 of the odd year of the legislative session.
My instructor's certificate expired in 2009 and for various reasons, I did not get it renewed before Dec. 31. I used the online renewal process beginning on the first day it was available, back in March, I believe, of 2010. This process is fully functional.
I will have to renew in the second half of 2011 like most of the rest of you.

Curious, how did you do the shooting?

I think they addressed that in our class this summer. It was mentioned that they may set up shooting qualifications for different regions, so that it isn't necessary for everyone to come to Austin just to shoot. Anyone else remember that? LT?
