The company I work for has a large conference room that they rent out or sometimes just provide to others to hold meetings.

The last two days... there has been a meeting involving Sheriffs, Sheriffs deputies, and Constables from all over the East Texas area. There were probably 40-45 participants, two of whom I knew.

I visited with a young deputy (former boyfriend of my daughter) and a constable that I know both days they were there. In the process...I noticed the type of holster that most of the attendees were wearing.

I was surprised to see a good many 1911's present. At least as popular, were Glocks of various models. Spotted a couple of Sigs.

More than half of the holsters I saw (I didn't see them all) were strong side OWB's with no retention straps. Even saw a cross draw on one of the more "mature" officers.

Didn't see a single piece of leather that wasn't well built, I'd love to have the money represented in the firearms they carried too. Apparently East Texas Deputies and Constables are concerned with quality and reliability.

Evidently, some departments will still allow you to carry a single action auto without getting all upset about it. There was a lot "cocked and locked" present.

Oh yeah, the training seminar was about how to recognize and deal with people who have mental issues. I was told it was informative, but heavily laden with political correctness. One (unnamed) Constable told me: "Sometimes its hard to tell crazy.... from just plain mean!"

I'm sure his statement is correct and probably formed by dealing with both types. Anyway, they were all there trying to learn how to do their jobs even better.

I also see a lot of LEO's with open top retention holsters. Modern designs make a thumb break look about as tactical as a tube radio.

That is great that money is being invested into quality equipment. I spend the majority of my day around police officers and find a interesting mixture of quality in both the pistols and gear.

Most of the detectives I run across carry a Glock 27 in a fobus OWB strong side holster. I would bet money that the Glock 27 does not leave the holster until mandatory qualification rolls around.

I hear some crazy stories from the guys as they all know I am a bit of a gun "fan"

A friend (forget his name) told me the other day that he had to run a warrant once with his task force and between the four officers.....there were two guns. He mentioned something about a machete being used YIKES as one of the officer's weapons! The suspect did not resist.

A BBQ gun is one made to look fancy for special occasions....pearl grips and such generally qualify. I once saw a diamond and ruby 1911 grip on gunbroker....it would have definitely qualified!
