If they haven't received all of your background information yet, they won't issue your license.
Be patient, but watchful. Call them every few days for updates. They are generally very helpful in my experience as long as you are courteous with them.

I really don't know how much the "60 day" statue influences them. From the time they received my application until the day the web site said "license issued" took 72 days. Remember its business days not total days, so weekend and holidays don't count.
However, in their defense they had my application about the time Katrina hit. I was told this slowed things down because of "reallocation of services". Still don't understand that one

At times, DPS tries to say they have 60 "business" days, but that is wrong. It's 60 calendar days.

this was their latest responce to my last email sent tuesday. The response "processing application" simply indicates we have not
encountered any complications during the processing of your application.
When the license has been issued, the phrase will indicate application
complete-license mailed. As of now we are still waiting for your
background investigation to come in. Thank you for your patience.

DPS has been running behind. I know that the amount of applications really jumped this year in the wake of the Katrina evacuation and the associated rise in crime. It took 78 days earlier this year for me.

And I wouldn't be too surprised if, in the wake of this month's election results, we see another upsurge in applications in Q1.

Re-submitted???
24 hours to a MONTH!!!???
This is not giving me great confidence. I just inquired about my app via email and received the background check response too. I thought that meant I was almost done waiting. But know this

. I think I'm gonna go cry.
Maybe the whole problem with speed is not our DPS, but in fact those conducting the FBI background checks. Anybody know how to contact that department?

That's crazy! I bought another handgun recently and it took about 10 minutes to get a green light reply from the feds when the store phoned/faxed my info in.

The CHL background check is apparently significantly more in depth. They check everything about you, like aliases, previous addresses, marriage name changes, student loan accounts. Its pretty detailed. The NICS call at your local gunshop simply checks your criminal record I believe.

I've been watching the mail slow down lately (xmas). So, I would think the cautionary "week to 10 days" is in full effect. Probably first part of next week.
Congrats!!
Got your gear ready?
