So I carry a small pocket holster in my Camelbak on the side pouch. After my ride yesterday I changed clothes and pulled it out of my bag and clipped it in my waist band. A large group of riders were all gathering for an after-ride BBQ and I bent over to pick up something and out she came, holster and all. I was standing in a small group of 5 people while someone in the group was telling a story. I think i picked it up so fast that only my wife really noticed what happened.

As soon as I got it back in my wind pants (not recommended) my wife starts with the "oh that was nice..." I immediately cut her off since no one seemed to notice. Later I told her that she needs to work on her reaction time when it comes to calling me out (read: keep your mouth shut).

What I learned. Wind pants and a cheap uncle mike's holster are not good for me. And people are either ok with my carry mistake, scared to say anything, or just completely oblivious.

Your mistake was in not carrying a full sized 1911. THAT would have gotten everybody's notice.

It seems like we have had a few storys like this, its amazing how little people pay attention to whats going on around them. sounds like you where quick on the recovery though.

if it would have been in my crossbreed, there would not have been an issue. I completely trust that holster.

I had an Uncle Mike's IWB holster I couldn't keep my gun in it nor keep the holster in my waistband. I put it into the round file - - - I use Cross Breed and High Noon IWBs exclusively. In my classes I show pics of various holsters and tell everybody that the Uncle Mikes is there to show them what NOT to buy.

I know, I know... but it works really well in my Camelbak and doesn't pull out when I draw from the bag. I won't use it for anything else so help me jeebus.

In my first days of carrying (before I had joined this illustrious forum), I had picked up an Uncle Mike's holster as well. I learned quickly that a Beretta 92 will bounce down an entire flight of steps w/o discharging (that firing pin block works!).

man, that mental image made me cringe.

I said something un-repeatable during each and every bounce. Thing made the best Slinky impersonation I've EVAR seen!

funny thing is, didn't really mess up the finish, other than a ding on the left side thumb safety.

I would have conflicting instincts to run after it and to run away from it.

I didn't drop my gun, but in some of my earliest days carrying,
I dropped my extra mag of Gold Dots on the floor of the Goodwill
donation building when I was dropping off some old clothes.

Didn't realize it was gone until I got back in the truck to put the
seatbelt on.

I rushed back in to the donation place. The lady working there had just
picked up the black 9MM mag, and was staring at it, uncomprehending
what she was looking at.

Quickly I said, "I dropped that just now", took it, and found a better
place to put it after that. She never said a word. :-)

I *saw* an incident like that at mah ol' hospital, one morning in the cafeteria. Dude walks in, and it's morning so there wasn't hardly no body in there, and he's walking across the dining area back to where you get the food, and this magazine goes splat on the floor, a few rounds scatter about. He musta bumped the ejecto button (that's a technical term ) whilst he was walking.

it was pre-CHL for me, so I didn't really know about "licenses" and/or "TPC 30.06" and "stuff" but I knew what *that* was! I think I chuckled and went back to my eggs and taters.
