Ammunition going up?

Listening to Gun Talk on the radio yesterday it was stated that ammunition is about to go up in a few weeks and again this summer. Due to the rising prices of raw materials being consumed by China etc.
Maybe a good time to stock up. I know I am...

Base metal prices are volatile. Smart and experienced people (which I am not) are having trouble predicting them.
That said, it looks like the U.S. dollar price copper is going up. That is the main driver in the cost of finished ammunition.

I'm no fan of China, but they are buying metals for a reason. They make all those electrical and electronic toys that use large amounts of copper, which everyone else in the world wants to buy.

I keep hearing from internet commandos that this coming price increase is just hogwash. That the ammo companies/retailers/wholesalers are just trying to get another mad rush going. That this is just a rumor, like the 500% tax increase on ammo, and the serializing of individual rounds of ammo.
This time, though, it is the truth. I haven't listened to GunTalk yet (it's syncing to my iPhone right now), but I know that Tom wouldn't knowingly put out any false info on his show.
Here's the link I posted in another forum where the natives had their undies in a bunch over this "stupid rumor" that was only going to "cause another buying rush", leading to a "self-fulfilling prophecy" that the ammo companies were salivating over.
It's a link to letters from ATK, Winchester and Hornady explaining what's going up when, how much, and why:

I even had one guy ask me, "What "productive goodness" comes from spreading such truths?"
Yeah, I stocked up some - just 2K rounds of .223 so far. I do need to get some reloading components soon, though. My bullet supply stinks.

Rumors are generally worthless, but futures prices are real numbers that people are betting millions of dollars on. When people offer more for a commodity in the future than it is selling for now, that means they think the price will go up more than that.

The price of everything is going up. (Really, the value of the US Dollar is going down.)

The price of foreign made .22 LR target ammo; e.g., Wolf, SK, Eley, etc. has already started to rise.

Inflation is coming...
Everything is going up! Except my paycheck...

Anything with a lower labor or material cost (foreign-made or aluminum or steel cases) will tend to track the higher-priced "premium" ammo. The lower-cost manufacturers make higher profit on their goods.
In turn, the cheaper alternatives will limit price increases on the higher-priced brands or drive them out of business.
Pretty much all commodities have worldwide markets now. Probably in your local Academy you can find ammo made in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Bulgaria, Romania, or Russia.

Commodity prices are going up (
again), and transportation costs (ie the price of oil) are going up as well. It's only to be expected.
I don't think it is likely to get better any time soon either. With the hugely irresponsible expansion of the money supply by the Federal Reserve over the past few years inflation is only to be expected, no matter how much they and the current administration try to deny it.
Additionally, with the unprecedented increases in government spending over the past few years, and with neither party serious about reining in spending, I'm not sure how much longer the world is going to keep buying dollars. I expect to see a downgrading of the federal government's bond rating within 5-10 years if there aren't some major changes that nobody seems willing to make.

Should I stock up on handgun or rifle ammo first?
Any "good" local to DFW store? We have been having theft issues with UPS and USPS.

It is too late if you have not already "stocked up". Word is out on the net and the hoarders have descended on every outlet and store known to the shooting world. Theoretically there should not be a supply problem. Unfortunately, craziness will win out one more time and folks will be buying up ammo as if the second coming of Christ was upon us. Think about something. A ten percent increase is one dollar a box for 9mm. Even if you buy 20 boxes... your saving a whopping 20 bucks over what you will pay next month.

I saw a letter where one company was announcing a 15 percent increase on ammo and components.

With all the hoarding over the last few years, I'm half expecting some houses to suddenly disappear as they break through the crust of the earth. There have to be massive stockpiles out there. It took stores in my area 18-24 months to start actually having ammo on the shelves because it was being purchased as soon as it came off the truck. You'd think hoarders were at max capacity by now, or the shooting community has greatly expanded.

I expect everything to be going up. When I drove my forty seven mile one way commute today to work I noticed that diesel is now starting to go above $4 per gallon. I remember when it got to $380ish a few years ago people were freaking out. Semi truck drivers went on strike. I wonder why they aren't doing so now? Inflation and our shrinking dollar is not helping matters.

Easy to say for a guy that had to reinforce his foundation to hold his collection ...
