If you’ve already contacted Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst’s office and told him that you support campus carry, this is what we need you to do THIS WEEKEND:
Send an email to the nineteen Senators listed below (you can include all 19 Senators in one mass email), asking them to support Senator Wentworth’s amendment to Senate Bill 5. Give a brief explanation (as short as one sentence or as long as 300 words) of why you support campus carry. If you’re currently affiliated with a college or university, be sure to mention the college and your affiliation (i.e., "I’m a student at Texas Tech,” “I teach at Texas A&M,” “I’m employed by the University of Texas,” “I have a daughter at the University of North Texas,” etc). And as always, be sure to include your name, address, and phone number. You can say that campus carry is completely germane to SB5 and campus carry is the most important legislation that we need passed for higher education this year.
These nineteen Senators currently support campus carry, but our opponents are trying to dissuade them from supporting Senator Wentworth’s amendment to SB 5, claiming that a vote to attach Wentworth’s amendment is nothing more than a vote to kill SB 5. We must persuade these legislators to be unwavering in their support of campus carry!

Hopefully some thinkin' and talkin' occurred. Kinda looks like it, but I guess we'll see soon what's happening if a deal was cut or what
I suggested that if she became the 21st vote on SB 354, perhaps Amendment 7 to SB 5 might go away.
And I've pointed out that it's less risky and cheaper for schools to pass Amendment7/SB 354 because the IMMUNITY paragraphs make for cheaper insurance rates for schools than risking a HOUSE bill passing which contains NO Immunity clauses.
If she really is interested in saving schools money during budget cuts, she'll help on SB 354/Amendment 7 rather than risk the other bills passing.
(P.S. The anti-gun group has NOT Tweeted this info yet, so get your faxes in before they use up all the fax paper again over the weekend
)
@martinbartlett Martin Bartlett
There is word of
a deal that might give new life to bringing concealed handguns into college, univ buildings. We'll see how/if this goes

Done.
I Hope we can get this one through. With movement on HB 681 in the House, this may prove to be a busy week.

txsccc, thanks for posting this in the manner you did. Adding that data made it very easy to do the task, since I flat don't have much time available to react to these. Thank you!

+2 - copy/paste all the email addresses in one fell swoop, and hit them all with a single email. Much more efficient than using the web based form on the Senate website!

Well, perhaps it is a little late, but I just emailed the following:
Dear Senator,
I am writing to express my support for eliminating the restriction on CHL holder's to carry on college and university campuses in the state of Texas. I would have preferred for one of the existing bills, such as Senator Wentworth’s SB354, to have passed on it's own merit. However as we seem to be left with the prospect of attaching this legislation as an amendment to SB 5, I would ask you to support this measure as well. As SB 5 is a bill pertaining to higher education matters, the amendment is completely germane to SB 5.
As a 15 year employee of a private university, I have first hand experience at being dis-armed on a daily basis just because my place of work resides inside of an arbitrary boundary. And while this bill will still allow my university to 'opt-out' and will therefore not immediately have an impact on me (I actually preferred the language in HB 86); I would still choose not to deny my peers at public universities to practice the God given and constitutionally protected right of self defense that has been denied us for so so long.
Further, my daughters are 15 and 13 currently and will likely attend college in Texas in a few short years. Even though they will be under 21 for much of this time, I would know - and more importantly criminals would know - that they do not reside in a supposedly gun free zone.
Sincerely,
Re: Please Email these 19 Senators Today!!!
