I'm thinking of getting a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 .22 LR for general plinking at the range. I have not read any bad reviews, so I assume it is a fine carbine. I plan on the A1 version with the compensator. Just a few bucks more. I will be adding an inexpensive (truglo) red/green dot 8 reticle sight, and I was wondering what other accessories are recommended (grip, bipod, grip/bipod combo, etc). This just for fun, not defense. TIA

There were some problems with the early guns, something to do with the extractor, they repaired the ones that they got back. If it is a late sn it should be good to go, and no I don't know the sn break.

Great little plinker. The whole family has fun with this gun. I took the iron sights off, put on Magpul MBUS sights along with a cheap sightmark reflex sight and she's good to go. Alot of fun. I dont think I would do anything else to ours.

Can I assume you mounted the Magpul MBUS sights to avoid having to remount the original sights if you took the reflex sight off or the battery failed? Or was there another reason? Thanks.

You are correct. I wanted something that could stay on the gun sighted in and ready to use if the reflex sight failed. We have been caught on the range with battery failure before and kept on truckin with the MBUS. I carry a spare battery now, lol. Lesson learned! I took the original irons off because they were to much in the way of the reflex. I suppose I could have mounted the reflex on a riser and left the original irons on but thought it would be better to get the irons completely out of the way which the MBUS does wonderfully.

yeah i picked up a little fake suppressor for mine, and now it kinda sounds like your are shooting full .223 suppressed. Mine from academy didnt have the flash hider on it so i had to buy some extra parts to thread the barrel but i love it, it makes it fun to go to the range and shoot all day and not feel like you spent an arm and a leg on ammo too.

I picked one up yesterday. I'm going to mount my Truglo open reticle red dot, some cheapo Magpul MBUS folding sights, and a cheapo grip/bipod combo for now. Put some plastic rail covers on the bottom and sides of the barrel rails, as I found them really uncomfortable to hold. Should be a fun and cheap plinker.

Well, I picked it up and did a bit of customizing. Added a Truglo 8 reticle red dot, Magpul MBUS fold down sights, rail covers (so as not to hurt my delicate hands on the evil rail), and a RIS el-cheapo front grip/bipod. I'm sure there are some "must have" accessories I'm missing Will see how it shoots tomorrow. Thanks for the input folks.
