Gun inside home

My wife cant believe that I will not answer the door with out my gun. I mean it is concealed because it is probably a neighbor or girl scout selling cookies but maybe not. I believe the threat is very real because if the bad guys can get control of me in my home I am gonna be in big trouble! Then there is my family to think about.
Does this make sense or am I just being paranoid?

If you're paranoid then I guess I am too.

I don't know, but I always answer with my gun also. At night I take the shotgun, and I never stand right in front of the door. There have been too many news reports of people getting knocked out by doors being kicked into them. My family is to important for me not to be cautious.

Are the two things mutually exclusive?
Seriously, I got in the habit of putting mine on when I get up in the morning and taking it off when I go to bed.
While I'm sleeping, it's on my nightstand within reaching distance.

Nobody knocks on my door at night, and I can see who's out there during the daytime, right through the windy in my door. I am typically (though not 100% of the time) armed when I answer the door, but that is because I am typically armed between when I get up, and when I go to bed.
If somebody knocked on my door at night and woke me up.... well, it would be my dog waking me up... I'd likely come to the door with a .45 in my hand and stand off to one side until I knew who was there.

If I'm at home and not in the pool (or wearing swimming attire), its on my hip.
Paranoid ? nahhhh.... Why else would one have a carry pistol ?

No you're not paranoid or alone in your practice as others have noted before.
I carry a .45 Springfield everywhere with me when I'm inside the house. Either on my hip or within arms reach at all times.
IF I answer the door, I have it on me.
So far, its only been Schwann's, or Girl Scouts or some other non-dangerous visitor. In all cases, they don't know anything about it.
However, that's not to say the next visitor will be the same. The safety of my family is paramount and there's no compromise on that point.
Better safe than sorry; better never sorry.
You're in good company with your current practice. Carry on!

We very seldom get night visits, except for my neighbor
But I always have a pocket pistol, and something bigger a few steps away.
Just keep something in your pocket and your wife doesn't have to know.

I believe the term that was coined a while ago was "Preparanoid"

There is a certain comfort level that comes with a Rottie and a Boerboel as in-door dogs. Nothing is entering our home without our knowledge. I am not saying they are man killers or that they are our only defense

- what I am saying is that my family has a few extra seconds to grab a gun if needed.
The equation is simple: us + awake = carrying

Where is hers?
Mine is on me or within reach. We know if someone is here before the door - typically. If not I definitely have a "friend" with me.

You are not paranoid, she is just in denial
FYI, I carry it 99% of the time in the house. The other 1% is filled with nail biting...

Get a quality surveillance system with at least 4 cameras. I can see who is at my front door from the back of the house. I can see who is walking/driving up the street. It doesn't cost that much and it is worth it.
I don't know why more people don't do this. I installed it one camera at a time as I could afford it. Four channel DVR and a decent video monitor and your good to go. You don't have to be an electronics wizard to do this.

I don't even answer the phone unarmed. For that matter, I don't answer my wife unarmed when I actually hear her
