So, tell me, what was the gun doing loaded? If they had a concealed firearm, then it should have been CONCEALED...and if it was a firearm they were looking to buy, it should have been chamber checked before handing it over. What was that sig-line I read about amateurs skipping safety checks?

If you ask me, I do not mind if it is mandated to recommend a "reasonable" professional training for gun handling that you are interested in owning. Fatal mistakes are just fatal. Even the Qualification for CHLer lacks a lot, like how to draw, how to re holster, how to load and make ready, how to reload, how to clear a jam, etc. All of those critical skills are not in the CHL Qual test.

Although I am obviously not excusing a negligent discharge, I did want to point out there is no need to conceal anything in Pennsylvania. Open carry is quite legal there.

I am sad for this woman and her family ... this appears (by the story) to be a case of a senseless unfortunate negligent act that ended very badly. But, in all respect simply adding more government mandated intrusion into my right to own or simply to "handle" a weapon is not the answer. If that were the case then we all need to know how to correctly fix all potentially harmful issues with our vehicles before we can obtain a license. Vehicles negligently kill, maim and injure people daily and that is acceptable because they're not intrinsically designed to do so...but yet they are statistically more deadly at the hands of a novice. More governmental regulatory oversight is not the answer... All it does is make more bureaucracy, adds fees and limits my civil liberties. The training is ONLY as effective as the person teaching and the person proctoring the testing.
At some point personal accountabilities need to take the lead... We can't regulate danger out of living.

not sure about PA, but almost all of the ranges i frequent are also 'gun shops.'

could have been on the range, if this is the same type of facility... media could just be calling it by the primary name of the place.

Reporting on these stories evolves rapidly.

This is most unfortunate, if true:
In front of the shop owner the husband got out his own loaded gun. It fired, hitting [the victim].

The coroner ruled the death a homicide:
http://www.fox43.com/news/wpmt-gun-stor ... 8909.story" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My feeling is that this was a disastrous accident. If the husband wanted to whack his wife, he could have devised a better cover-up without witnesses. However, anything is possible.

This story is now worldwide news, BTW. Pretty much every unusual shooting in the U.S. becomes that.

"Shot to death" is a very dramatic way of putting it from reading the story. When you read "shot to death" it conjures up images of shooting someone until they are dead (multiple shots). What a sad situation.

In my view, in the end a gun is a tool; just like a chainsaw, nail gun, etc. the onus is on the user to obtain proper use and instruction before using. Not doing so may have deadly consequences.

My heart goes out to her family.

Of course, it's part of the unrelenting MSM attack on gun ownership and shared agenda of a world-wide left wing media: any unusual negative use, national or worldwide coverage; any positive use in self-defense, local news only, or silence.

Right. It could be an accident, justifiable, manslaughter, reckless homicide, or some other charge under the laws of a particular state. Capital punishment is a justifiable homicide.

However, in this case, it looks like a major torquing of the canine at best.

Kel-Tecs, mostly being double-action-only, have whatever the opposite of hair trigger is. The trigger pull force is more than the weight of the pistol.

Kel-Tecs are DAO pistols, and their trigger pull is long, but none of the 3 Kel-Tecs I have owned (including a P11 like in this incident) have had terribly heavy triggers. There are also instructions available on the internet to lighten the weight of the trigger pull on them. While what we have read so far seems to point to a murder, we don't have all the facts, yet.

If someone skips safety-checks, they're not a pro ie. not handling the firearm professionally.

It's as simple as that - although I do seem to recall someone here saying that the concept makes them laugh every time they read it - takes all kinds, I guess :rolll
@AndyC: I hope you understood that I was agreeing with you? And its the same thing I taught my kids about firearms, as well.
