I installed a DVR on my home network and want to be able to access it from outside my computer and from my smartphone.

I don't know enough about setting this up to make it work.

I've followed the Chinese to English translation supplied with out success.

Is any one in the north DFW area who can help with this?

I sent you a PM. It could be too complicated to troubleshoot over forums. But its worth a shot maybe.

To get it to properly flash 12:00, unplug it from the electrical outlet and count to 12, then plug it back into the electrical outlet.

why are you asking this on a CHL forum. you have to be 21 to have a CHL in Texas.

this question needs to be asked for a 9 year old with rudimentary (for his age) computer skills

...so THAT'S my problem...I took Algegra I, then skipped Rudimentary and went right on to Business Math...I can't set up that stuff , either....

What is the name of the manufacturer? It will probably require setting up some sort of dynamic dns (DDNS) account to be able to access it from the outside, unless your ISP provides you with a static IP address (they usually charge extra for that).

Most ISP's don't change your dynamic IP that often, so you can address it that way. Mine has stayed the same for over a year.

And, you will more than likely have to open a TCP/UDP port (like 80) on the router/firewall to address the web server in the DVR.

That is quite likely, but the DDNS option makes it easier to remember an address than an IP. I've only worked on 2 of them, but both came with a built in option for providing DDNS.

Here's my issue at the moment. I've been working on this for a few days now, trying different things.

I've got it working on the LAN.

But I can not get it working from outside through my firewall.
I've turned on ports in both UDP and TCP.
I've turned off Windows firewall and my Norton.
When I run a port check, it continues to say the ports are closed.

Looking for ideas.
Am using a 2wire (ATT Uverse) router.
It's a Gadspot DVR that from what I understand is a generic DVR that many put their name on.

I'll look in to the DDNS option.
Would DDNS vs. Static make any difference here?
I set my IP address for the DVR to a static address in the router as this was an option.

But the problem seems to be that I can't open a port.

Your ISP may be doing some port blocking too.

I've tried several port testing sites.

They all say the ports I've opened are closed.

That's where I'm stuck.
