I think it would be a good safe idea, but don't think it will happen, too much money involved. But then again, it costs a lot to fight fires and repair the resulting devastation.

What does dry conditions have to do with hunting seasons? As far as deer season goes, there is no food for the deer to eat.It's time to reduce the herd. I think everone knows camp fires are no go this year.

Every grass fire we've had on or near our property has been caused by some idiot driving down the highway and throwing a cigarette out the window.

Have there been fires, in the past, that have been attributed directly to hunting? I understand that there are other things that hunters do that my cause fires. Things such as cooking in the woods, smoking, driving ATVs/trucks in dry grass, etc. However, with or without hunting season, these activities happen every day.

Right! Hunting doesn't cause fires and guns don't kill people. For grins, check out this article in today's issue of our weekly er,...uh paper.

It says the fire could have been started by the vehicles catalytic converter. Good thing bows and guns don't have catalytic converters.

I don’t think it will be much of a “hunt” this year. The deer are coming to my front yard every day looking for food. I could easily sit in my rocking chair on the porch and shoot. My feeders out back draw many in. Not much of a sport.

Just finished a weekend hunt of white wing with quite a number of other hunters in Hondo. Almost all of us limited out, I did for sure, with no issues with fires or starting them. Not sure I see the connection. Our hunt was a memory maker with my son and sure glad we went. YMMV....

Other things to watch for...are pulling off the side of the road where there is tall, dry grass.

Catalytic converter on your vehicle can get hot enough to ignite dry tinder. The occasional lightning strike will spawn a fire too (not much of that happening right now).

I reckon those good 'ol boys who started the fire outside of Alto will remember it for awhile. , I forot! They didn't start the fire, their naughty vehicle did.

I guess that's better than the fools that throw out their cigarettes. They will never know they started a fire. If someone tried to tell them, they would say "Oh no! It couldn't have been me!!!"
