I just bought a used Kahr and it has "dot the I" sights on it and the white paint is completely gone on both the front and rear sights. Any suggestions on the best method to renew the paint?

Yep, degrease the metal with rubbing alcohol and use Testor's model enamel and a sharp toothpick to dab it into the spots you want.

Nail polish also works pretty good.

My daughter has some glow in the dark nail polish somewhere around the house.

I have used some reflective lens tape from the automotive store. Paint pens, sharpies also work pretty good.

:iagree:
I had to do the same thing to the front sight on my M&P .45. This was the method recommended to me by S&W's customer service department. I haven't had any issues with it since.

I've used this product before Bright Sights, but never used their Ghost Glow paint which is luminescent and glows in the dark if held under the light first. I had used the green and orange. It was really good. It went on well and was VERY visible. .

Thanks for all the suggestions. The project was completed last night with a bit of Testors and a toothpick. Now I'll see how long it lasts through regular use, cleaning, etc.

Thanks again!

It should stand up well. Mine has lasted years on some.

If you use spray gun cleaner/brake cleaner, it can remove it. Just don't spray it directly.

FWIW, I bought a 1911 used that had an orange painted front sight. After trying awhile to get the "paint" off, I realized it was a orange crayon. It still took me a toothpick and some chiseling to get it out of there so it held up well from my experiences.

I normally don't bump older threads but this thread is already discussing my question. I am wanting to do something about the front sight on my new S&W 442. It is a flat black ramp sight. The rear is notched in the gun. I purchased laser grips but am old school and like having iron sights I can see. The sight on the 442 is horrible.

Sorry about the wordy explanation. I am researching sight paints. Keith had posted a link above to a brand called Bright Sights. I have been doing some reading on the tru glow paint and get mixed messages. The single common complaint is it is thin... Very thin. Is the paint you posted above pretty easy to apply Keith? Is it thin... Multiple coats. I need it mainly for my ramp front sight. I might consider outlining the rear sight unless someone recommends against it with good reasons.

Thanks everyone... Any and all opinions are welcomed. Experiences? Type paint you used?

If you want some knockout glow in the dark sights try these :thumbs2: I have used them in the past they work great! I need to order some more come to think of it. :tiphat:

I might try that. It appears to be easier than trying to paint the sight.

My quesiton on these is how well do they show up in low light if they haven't been 'charged' under a light source prior to using? Also, how long do they hold a good charge?
