Ok, saw this over on Yahoo a little while ago and it made me wonder...

I'm finding myself in the 'whoever asked for the date' corner... What about you?

well, my answer is double--I'm old-fashioned enough to think that the man should ask & pay!

I said the man, but almost 22 years ago my future wife showed up at a company picnic the day after we met at a friends party and before she left told me she would call me later to tell me how to get to her apartment so she could take me to a Chicago Concert at the Starplex and she paid for the whole evening. She even called the guy she was supposed to go the concert with and told him she wasn't feeling well and couldn't make it.

the problem/dilemma is with the word "should."

If the girl asks you out on a date and takes you to dinner and a movie, it would seem pretty rude (if I put myself in her shoes) if you offered to pay.

The one with the money should pay.

I would say both. I prefer dutch at least for the first date. The shouldn't be any pressure on either of us. After the first date, I've paid or he's paid. If I enjoy his company then who pays for it is the least of my concern.

It would be exceedingly rude for someone to invite you to dinner and expect you to pay not only for yourself but for them as well.

This...

I think it's rather telling that there are 0 votes for "woman". Of course, they woman should never pay... except if they set it up. If I'm asked out by a woman (in my dream-world since I'm married 17 years now. haha), I'd never let her pay, but in general, if someone invites you to something, then expects you to pay, they have a screw loose.

My wife and I went dutch for the first few dates we went on. Once things got serious we alternated. I'm also old fashioned and was going to pay but my wife absolutely insisted we split the check. I'm not one to argue with a woman when she has her mind made up. That usually doesn't wind up working out in my favor.

There's a woman who won't take "No" for an answer! :hurry:

Yes it is. Where are all the supporters of equal rights?
