It happened at a CW class, but she was at a convenience store?

Not sure what you mean, but if you are thinking about room for a class, there are lots of convenience stores in rural areas that have small restaurant areas in them.
However, from piecing the articles together, it looks like maybe they were shooting somewhere north of the Raceway convenience store off of Church Rd. and maybe they put the person in a vehicle and took them down to the store as a more convenient location for EMS to find as a familiar landmark.

Updated info here

Was a ND during the live fire portion of the class. One student was being shown how to hold the weapon and it discharged striking another student.
The injured student (a female) was driven to the convenience store and flown by helicopter to the hospital. She is reported to be out of surgery and in stable condition. The class was being taught by an off-duty Spartanburg County Deputy, who is a certified to teach the classes by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

...paring knife, nailgun, hammer, scissors, motor vehicle, or gun + people...someone's gonna get hurt...I'm thankful it's not more often and thankful the victim's OK...

So in SC, its normal to teach gun handling during the CHL class, not for someone to learn it BEFORE attempting their qualification?

...I'd like to see a coupla hours devoted to safe gun handling and the different actions here in Texas...the class I took was a good one...but they only spent about 20 mins in the class...and on the firing line, no handling at all other than pick it up and shoot it...put it down and the rangemaster came by and changed all the mags...put one in for the next string of fire...we didn't even load our own mags and I know there were some who'd never touched a handgun before that day...

Deputies said an investigation showed that the student's weapon was not put in a safe condition prior to the instructor helping the student with the proper grip of the weapon.
So pointing the gun, in safe condition, towards another person is right? It was the instructors responsibility to ensure the gun was pointed in a safe direction while instructing the student on the proper grip technique.
