Say "Hello" to Brutus....

As of noon today, my M1A has a new home. A guy saw my ad on TexasGunTrader.com and wanted to know if I would make a straight up trade with him: my rifle with the scope for his SASS AR10 without a scope. I had around $3,000 in my rifle with the scope, and he had around $3,000 in his minus the scope, so it was a wash as far as money.

More pics to follow, but here is a preliminary one:

Image

Here is what was included:
  • .308/7.62 NATO
  • DPMS A4 upper and lower, upper was custom machined by Noveske to accept barrel
  • 18" stainless steel Noveske heavy barrel, installed by Noveske, 1:10 twist, chamber optimized for M118LR
  • Dura-Coated barrel
  • YHM Phantom .308 Comp/Flash Hider
  • Rock River 2 stage match trigger, honed to a nice light and crisp letoff
  • Falcon Industries ERGO Tactical Deluxe Sure Grip Pistol Grip with Palm Shelf
  • Magpul PRS stock
  • Troy Battle Rail
  • 5 PMAG 20 round mags, and 4 DPMS 20 round mags
  • Pair of Weaver tactical 30mm scope rings
I think I made out like a bandit. This is exactly the kind of rifle I was trying to obtain, and I can't wait to shoot it. It has 320 rounds on the clock, and it came with his shooting log. How about 5 shot groups of commercial Hornady TAP 168gr into .5 MOA at 100 yards out of a semiauto? How about 5 shots into 4.5" at 600 yards? Those numbers are in the log.

Now I've just got to get a really good scope for it.
:hurry:

You will like that. The only compliant I had with mine was that the 18 inch barrel didn't get the velocities I wanted. But I will still able to get out beyond the 1000 yard mark with it. So as much as I like my LR308 as a 308 Win I love it as a 6.5 Creedmoor.

So that's what you did instead of reducing kaolin and pitch to dust? :biggrinjester:

Be sure to memorialize your first outing with photos and DON'T FORGET TO POST!

Yeah, his shooter's log doesn't record any chronograph data—only ammo description, group size, temperatures and wind conditions.

I'm really glad he did, I was fixing to buy it. The only one I want more is what he traded for. :coolgleamA:

Oh, I forgot to add a few details about this rifle....

Noveske also modified the bolt by adding a stronger spring and an O-ring on the extractor, and they mounted a small "recoil spring" on the firing pin, which the guy told me prevents slam fires with commercial ammo. They also headspaced the barrel properly. Apparently the firing pin is optimized for M118LR, which has harder primers than commercial ammo. This supposedly increases the risk of a slam fire when shooting commercial loads. I asked him if it actually works, and he shrugged. We both grinned.
