The article wrote:Democratic officials Wednesday launched a two-pronged attack on states with new laws requiring identification before voting, the highlight being a call to boycott Coke, Walmart and others that back a leading organization pushing for voter ID laws.
And this I found interesting:
The article wrote:The group complained that some states want to limit the time allotted for early voting, bar ex-felons from voting and require government identification to vote. Polls show that most Americans back the laws.
:banghead:

What I find interesting is the politicians and activists are the ones that are against Voter ID Laws. Maybe I missed it, but I have not seen an individual complain that it would cause undo hardship to have an ID. Don't you need ID to cash government assistance checks. You say Direct Deposit? Need an ID to open a bank account? As I understand most of the Voter ID laws, things like a utility bill, phone/cable bill, or even a copy of your lease will suffice.

What's the uproar? See AndyC's response below:
AndyC wrote:Every country I've lived in required ID before voting - for obvious reasons: to avoid voter fraud.

Do those against the concept here fear that they'll lose (fraudulent) votes, perhaps? (Yes, it's a rhetorical question)

If I understand correctly, the law MUST go into place. Then, if a person is unfairly denied a right to vote, they should file a grievance in court. You can't ask for injunctive relief until harm is proven. Am I right? (I've never taken a law class, so what do I know? ;-) )

Well wait, I almost just posted the very same article that was cited in the OP, as a way of saying no, don't support Coke because Coke has caved to liberal pressure. I think the OP draws a much different conclusion about who to support and who not to support than I would. I support those corporations/organizations that do not cave in to liberal pressure, and I do not support Coke, because cave in is what they did.

That's not what Holder said about the Texas Voter ID law. However, he was singing a different tune when ObummerCare was challenged in the lower courts.

Schizophrenic or pathological liar? You make the call.

I thought the Libs were pretty high on Coke. Now that I think about it, maybe that was a different kind of Coke.

I'm not sure I'd say they "caved." Coke is the #1 brand in the world, and they do NOT get entangled in divisive issues. Once they saw than association they were part of was getting aligned with voter ID issues, they got out of that org. They don't pick "sides" and they won't stay in organizations that do. They will never do anything (on-purpose) that will hurt the brand that way.

I'm not always a conspiracy theorist but I wonder if this situation doesn't warrant consideration.

It appears that the American Legislative Exchange Council was opposing new taxes on soft drinks. Those taxes were an idea that appeared go nowhere because of the organized pressure against them.

If opposition to the ALEC can be mounted because of the voter ID issue, it would not surprise me at all to see the soft drink tax rear its head again.

Now I just have to go and find my tin foil hat........

Economic terrorism at her finest, isn't it wonderful? Pretty sure you need an ID to write a check at Wallyworld.
