Anyone familiar with or use Ballistol?
http://www.ballistol.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I did a quick search and found a few references to it in other topics. But I didn't see any threads talking about how well it does or doesn't work.

I use Ballistol for cleaning my black powder rifles, and it works like a champ. Treat it as any other gun oil.
To be honest, I keep meaning to run a comparison test between Ballistol and CLP, but just haven't had the time.
For those of you that are fans of Hickok45, here's a video of him using it (according to him, that's all he uses).

FYI, for firing pin assembly areas, where you don't want to get any oil buildup, you should use something like OneShot (

I use it and like it, and besides if it is good enough for Hickok45 its good enough for me. I still don't care for the smell of it but it works for me and it has been around a long time.

I've found that it's more tolerable if you put yourself in the mindset that you're smelling black licorice

I know this will not help but to me it is not stronger, just different. Actually I always liked the smell of Hoppes. Reminds me of cleaning my M1 in boot camp.

I use this stuff - it works great! I like that fact that you can use it on anything from metal to plastic to leather to wood without having to worry about ruining the finish. Also, if you put a light film coat before your store your weapon, you don't have to worry about rust.
AndyC wrote:Ballistol is excellent stuff - it was very big in South Africa, where I believe some folks even drank the stuff to soothe sore stomachs. Never did like the smell, but it does help rub off small patches of rust.
I know it was used by the Germans in the early 1900's for medical purposes such as minor wounds and sores in addition to usage as CLP.

I've been happily married for a long time and don't have plans to change that, but if I were single at this time of my life, I'd be mighty attracted to a woman who was smart enough to put a little drop of Hoppes behind each ear.

I will also vouch for it. I love it. It's my primary for everything from my Glocks to my AR, and my brother loves it for his ultra high dollar fishing reels.
I fill a plastic dish with it, and soak my AR's bolt carrier group in it when it's a major cleaning.
I also like that it's great on wood! My desk loves it... which is great because I often clean my weapons right where I work during the day.
