Civil Liability and Deadly Force? How can we protect ourselves from this in Texas? Is there any type of Bill out there for this. Do any of you have insurance in case of a Civil Suit. Do any of you have an attorney? Thank for you time

The "Castle Doctrine" Bill (SB378) contains lawsuit (actually "liability") protection. It's actually had to sue and win in Texas now, when the use of deadly force was justified. When SB378 passes, it'll be even better.

We need this bad. We are in the shape we are because retreat has been required & the BGs new it. They dont obey retreat laws anymore than gun laws.

It must be the Dallas Morning News!! There are only 31 Senators and the last I heard 21 of them signed onto the bill as co-sponsors. With the 2/3 rule in the Senate, that means there are enough co-sponsors to bring the bill to the floor for a vote and more than the simple majority needed to pass it.

The last I heard, Rep. Driver's bill had over 90 co-sponsors in the House, far more than the simple majority to pass it.

Right now there are 97 Co-Authors, 4 Joint Authors & Driver as Primary Author for HB 284.

The Legislative web site doesn't list the complete author or co-sponsor info for SB 378 beyond Wentworth as Primary Author (and it only shows as "filed" for the status).

There are a couple of proposed bills that allow CHL's to keep a gun in their car, regardless of what their employer thinks. (They can prohibit gun in cars if the have secure parking lots.)

These bills provide for civil liability protection for employers if a CHL uses his gun.

NOTE: They do NOT provide for business liability protection if the business creates a gun free zone.

There is a company that sells CHL insurance. It pays your legal fees up through the grand jury process. Not sure but it may pay to protect from civil suits also.
