Going to be getting my CHL Instructor certificate. I'll need a revolver to qualify with, but I'm not a revolver kind of guy. Who makes a decent 4" that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I don't want to spend much as it will probably become a safe queen. I'm thinking about a taurus or EAA.

+1 on Ruger SP101 3" (5 shot) or GP100 4" or 6" (6 shot) both 38/357.
Not as inexpensive as a used Smith or new Taurus, but will last forever and is exceptionally well made. MIGHT find one used that would match used prices of Smith & Taurus but it may be hard to find as most people who have these Rugers tend to keep them.

I recommend staying away from the less than 3" models and no air weights or lightweights for range work.

Bud's Gunshop has police (Australian, I think) trade-in Model 10's in round or square butt for $269.

I too don't do revolvers, but I had to get one for CHL Instructor school. I bought this:

I used it for every Instructor requal and will use it again when I have to shoot for this renewal. It is dead on accurate and was the least costly 6" revolver I could find. It is a beautiful handgun too. Rossi is built by Taurus for another distributor, and the web-site I found said they are built on the same line. Buds has this gun for $380 and the 6" Taurus is $417.

I have two Taurus revolvers and they have worked great for me.

One in .357 Magnum (Taurus Tracker 627) and the Taurus 44 in 44 Magnum.

Great "truck guns" or backup guns when hunting or fishing.

That Rossi sure looks a lot like my S&W 686.

I have to agree with the 3" SP101 in .357 mag. They will hold up to a lot of punishment, and heavy enough to absorb a lot of recoil, easy to dis-assemble for detail cleaning, and just downright rock solid investments.

I bough a 3" Ruger GP100 after not passing the shooting proficiency with my 2" Chiappa Rhino. I have much better control with the Ruger and it has a super easy trigger pull. So excited to take the proficiency again in 9 days. I would recommend borrowing as many as possible until you find what fits you best. Good luck.

If you are not going to shoot lots of rounds then most anything from Rossi or Taurus will work though the new ones aren't the quality they use to be. If you think there will be lots of rounds being shot downrange then the Ruger is the way to go. They are almost impossible to kill. I prefer old pre-lock S&W wheels but the pricing here lately has been high. Also .38/357 would be the way to go.

don't know much about their revolvers, but i've been thinking of getting me one (center console gun). they also make a model 206 (cobra copy).

One of my best friends is a high end custom pistol smith, I sent him the link to see what he thinks. I have no knowledge of this line except that I hear their pistols are good.

ruger 357magnum and load it with 38spl. It will last for years.
