He said "I consider myself to be a strong supporter of the 2nd Ammendment" "rlol"

"There is no place for weapons designed to rapidly fire at humans" :banghead:

As we all know, this guy is an idiot but so are the people that keep him in office.

Welcome to the debate.

First Question,

Mr. Governor, Can you guarantee the safety of my person, the safety of my kids and safety of my family, Can you post armed national guards of Illinois for my protection on my front door 24/7?

Then, LEOs of Illinois should be under the ban too?

From the article
The man charged in the Colorado shootings, James Eagan Holmes, was armed with a Smith & Wesson M&P .223 semi-automatic rifle, similar to an AR-15 assault rifle, along with other firearms.
From Wikipedia
The AR-15 was first built by ArmaLite as a selective fire assault rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the AR-15 design to Colt. The select-fire AR-15 entered the US military system as the M16 rifle. Colt then marketed the Colt AR-15 as a semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle for civilian sales in 1963.[8] The name "AR-15" is a Colt registered trademark, which refers only to the semi-automatic rifle.

AR-15 = Semi-automatic rifle NOT assault rifle.
M-16 = Automatic rifle = Assault rifle.

Can't they get anything straight?

The Governor of Illinois does not necessarily speak for the people of Illinois. He is elected by the machine, long in place, in Chicago and Cook County. You know, the place where the curent POTUS used to live.

That said, I have NO plans to ever go back and visit the Southern Illinois of my pubescence.

Next: Mr Governor, are you saying that my M1903-A3 Springfield rifle, designed to fire as rapidly as the state of the art would allow, at humans, has no place in my collection? Or my M1 Garand, or my M1 Carbine?

I wonder if he knows what a handguard is.

Why stop there? What about LEVER ACTIONS? They were made to shoot rapidly at people, even if it was quite a long time ago...wasn't there a Civil War expression about a rifle that could be loaded on Sunday and shot all week, something to that effect? What about when they created the first breech loaders, instead of having to pour the powder down the barrel and ram the ball and wadding home? That change to cased ammo made it shoot more rapidly, so they could shoot people faster, too.

The problem with these political IDIOTS is that they are either too ignorant and don't care, or they KNOW and are willfully distorting things...and its often hard to know which with some of these clowns.

When is Springfield Armory going to move to Texas, or some other state that appreciates their products? I wonder what the gubbiner thinks of an M1A......'specially if it's black.

Great. If they do this then only the IL police and BG will have "assault rifles" and hicap mags. That wasn't redundant was it?

Sarcasm off.

That governor of theirs is crazier than I thought he was. TAM, do you think we could get a letter campaign together, and target Illinois gun manufacturers (and Governor Perry, so he could get things working down here) to get 'em to move to Texas? Seems like we'd be getting some GREAT help from the Governor of Illinois! :biggrinjester:

NRA-ILA wrote:Quinn rewrote the entire bill as an amendment to the Illinois Criminal Code that includes an onerous ban on the manufacture, possession, delivery or sale of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms (inaccurately referred to as “assault weapons”), .50 caliber rifles and cartridges and “high capacity” magazines in Illinois.
Seriously. Springfield Armory is in Illinois, is it not? From the sound of it, every single one of their M1A rifles can no longer be manufactured, delivered or sold, and neither can their 20 round magazines. And that's just the rifles. Most of the XD/XD(m) line is also now illegal to make in Illinois. This effectively puts Springfield out of business, unless they move.

Personally, if I were Springfield's management, I'd do what Ronnie Barret did to California law enforcement. "Nope. Sorry. I can't ship you that rifle you sent me for repairs. That would be illegal. You'll have to send someone to come pick it up;" and I'd move my factory to Texas where it would be appreciated. Why contribute to the Illinois tax base when this is the kind of fascist they elect?

I got no pull with Perry, but I'd be happy to write some letters. How about a "Texas Edition M1A?"

I thought of something else, but since IANAL, I'd like to see what y'all think. Isn't Quinn making an ex post facto law by making something already legal now illegal without any recourse for the citizens affected? I think that's why California did the registration thing so as to avoid that...then it became a registration violation for previously owned ARs, AKs, etc. and a ban on obtaining NEW ones...anyway, just guessing...

This is nothing new. Illinois already effectively bans both, and has for years. Hell, you can't even hunt in Illinois with a rifle (you have to use a slug gun)!

On a related note, another governor did exactly what this dude wants in 2004 on the state level, maintaining the Clinton Ban at the state level when the Federal ban was to expire. That state: Massachusetts. That governor: Mitt Romney.

How sad is it that this is the guy you all (well, many of you) expect to protect our 2nd Amendment rights?
