It happens.
Getting a hug during the holidays, from a loved one, co-worker, relative, someone from church etc. that you really didn't wish to make aware you were carrying.
How do you respond when asked "What is that ?"
I always go with the tried and true "it's my colostomy bag, sorry I didn't want anyone to know...oh no, I think it's leaking again..."
Stops that conversation cold every time ;)

Happened to me at church a few weeks ago, thankfully we have for the most part a very pro gun church. The person it was knows me, asked specifficly if it was a gun. Never gave a straight and in front of anyone, later when no one was around informed him I had my license. Most of us at the church know who carrys and who dosen't. Our pastor has even said from the pulpit several times that there are a least a dozen people carrying

I am careful with how I hug. Since it is on my right hip, I will hug with my left arm going high at the shoulder level and my right arm going low at the waist level. That always ends up with their arm above my right arm, and well away from my firearm. So I've never had anyone feel it and start asking questions.

Ditto this, but for southpaws.
But despite my best efforts, it
has happened a couple of times, resulting in a slightly surprised look for the other person, and a wink and a smile from me.

My plan is to mumble something about "medical device", give off "I really am uncomfortable talking about my health" vibes, and change the subject quickly. If you get specific, it can bite you later.

It's pretty much a non-issue for me. Anyone hugging me knows that if they see me, I have a gun.
A few years ago, one of the forum Members had a great story about standing in line at a fast food location. His young son ran up and hugged him and hit his head on his gun. He backed off, rubbed his head, and loudly proclaimed "I hit my head on your gun!" (Or words close to that.)

Its happened to me at church. Not a big deal. I'm not the type of guy who people instinctively want to hug so if I'm hugging someone it's definitely someone who knows me well enough to not be surprised.

I have a pair of 4 year old twin boys and they frequently watch me "belt up" with my colt commander. i go to pick them up from school (my church) or whenever they hug me and they always bang thier head on my gun and this is what I hear, " Is that your gun again?". I lean down and whisper, "Yes, it is so hug me on the other side."

I though it said "thug." I had a totally different answer ready until I opened up the thread and read it. Where's my glasses?
