Just went and saw the new movie "300"--awesome flick. If anything will get the modern warrior charged up, it is the story of the Spartans vs. the Persians at Thermopaly. The battle scenes were brutal, but the director really put alot of emphasis on dialogue, which makes the movie IMHO.
All of the great quotes were there, such as Leonidas' reply to the Persians for them to lay down their weapons: "Come and Get Them" (MOLON LABE) which is now the battle cry for the RKBA movement. I do not want to give the movie away to anybody, so I will zip it.

If you carry a gun for self-defense and consider yourself on the path to becoming a modern warrior in every sense of the word; go see this movie and get pumped up: nobody in history epitomizes the warrior culture/ethos than that of the Spartans IMHO. If you want to read a great book on the subject, get "Gates of Fire" at Amazon.

Just went to the trailers, looks pretty intense. I am not sure how realistic the fight scenes are. They said they did not how Spartans fought so they made up there on style fighting. I am sure it will entertaining.

They got all of their historical info from the book "The Histories", which is very detailed in how the Spartans trained and the brutal tactics they used (ie Phalanx) the weapons in the film are all authentic reproductions of the era--the shields for instance were made of pure bronze were 3 ft in diameter and had a special leather sleeve in which the warrior could fit the entire length of his arm through so he could have much better leverage and could swing the shield as a weapon, which you can see in the movie can do alot of damage. I can tell you the fight scenes are brutal, akin to the opening fight scene in Gladiator; but the best part as I have said is the intense dialogue.....Enjoy!

My son saw it last night. He said it's the best movie he's seen in a very long time.

They might have found some info as far as the weapons, however they said so themselves, they developed their own fighting methods for the film. After studying some I found little Greek translation about fighting methods. Here is some reading with some pretty good links. I also found most writing reiterates these basic Spartan principles.

i have been waiting for this movie to come out for months. already got my tickets for monday. cant wait.

Saw the 12AM show Friday morning. Awesome movie! I recommend all to go see this.

Just got back from the movie. please do not flame me but this is a typical distortion from the hollow wood crowd. Some content is correct but do we really need such a graphical presentation, special effects, sci fi animals and actors. Why the sex ? I new what to expect but I great movie could have been made. I did like some of the actors.

I guess if your really into to blood and gore, its your movie, definitely a guys night out

Now my big beef, why do parents take their children to these movies. I was saddened to see a 3 year old boy in the seat next to me. when we left i noticed at least 8-10 kids, from baby's to young teens. I would like to see legislation to prevent children from seeing these R movies

Great movie. I went to see it but the wife took the kids to see "Wild Hogs" in the theatre next to it. Being an R rated movie, I didn't think it was a good idea. Definitely a "guy" movie and the best movie I've seen in a long time. I'll be waiting in line at the dollar movie to see it again and getting it on DVD!!!

Yes just like online predators, gangs, drugs in school and yes the government does play a role in protecting our children, mainly because so many parent have very little parenting skills. I for sure cannot depend on Hollywood to police its on affairs, gee they might loose a dollar.

Example, go figure where a substantial portion of you tax dollars goes too, how about caring for our adult population in the prison system. Just look at Sundays paper, we are totally out of room in housing juvenile offenders. One of My best friends, Jim Martins ran the Harris Count Juvenile detention center for 30 years and agrees 100% with my statement

I am for less government in many ways but sometimes we need laws to protect our children from Parents poor choices. Sure I would rather the movie industry do the right thing, heck even the theaters themselves could prevent what I saw.

So I really think you jest with me on this matter, however some may see it different.

Look don't get me wrong, I am not a prude but when it comes to defenceless children I will err on the side of safety.

I loved the movie! I also watched a special on the history channel about the 300 that was very good also. I don't remember the exact title of the show. I was surprised to see how accurate the movie was on many points.

You're reversing cause and effect. So many have poor parenting skills because of government, so please don't try to justify more of it.

They lose a lot of mine. If you don't like the products, you might think of taking the same approach.

My words were not in jest. I seen no grounds for any person to call on the government to restrict what another can or cannot do. Its called personal responsibility. Maybe the government should force all parents to attend parenting classes or risk having their children taken away until they do. That would suffice for you, wouldn't it? (Yes, that was in jest, but it proves my point. You have to look from all angles, and your suggestion didn't.)

Its the same deal with the proposed smoking ban. No, I don't think children should be exposed to it, but that is for the parents to take care of, not the government. And the second they started telling private business owners what they can and cannot allow in their own bought and paid for business establishments, was the second they crossed the line
