I was reading a another post that got me thinking and looking for a good belt. and was wondering does it have be a "gun" belt. cause most of the belts I have found on the net are kinda expensive. as my budget is right now a $100 is to much for a belt (I have a baby on the way and we are saving every last penny cause the wife will be out of work for a while.)

So can I get away with finding a good quality, thick belt, that is not necessarily made to carry a gun?

I bought one at Cavender's that works acceptably. Not as good as a purpose-made belt, but it's thick and stiff. I think it was just under $40.

The Wilderness Instructor belts work well. In black, they look more like a normal belt than you'd expect, though, frankly, most people are about as observant as rocks anyway.

I have two belts from this guy, and will be getting at least one more (with velcro lining).

Highly recommended, and relatively (compared to other gunbelt makers) inexpensive.

You have all the advice above that you need. All these are quality belts at a very reasonable price.
If you are carrying IWB you can compromise on your belt some. Your pants will do part of the job.

Here are my two.

It will handle OWB, but not as well as the second one. It is about the same flexi quality as a seat belt.

Fwiw, the belts will hold me suspended (at 225 lbs.) in mid-air. It is not comfortable to be suspended from a single belt, but it is possible. I do use the belt(s) daily hooked on to safety devices, as needed, in my everyday work.

Aker belts are good and cheap $35-$45 (http://www.akerleather.com/). I wear the same one every day for a couple of years now. They have a polymer insert so they really hold the weight of your pistol well.

Don't overlook gun shows as places to find good belts. Recently picked one up from a dealer at a local show, nice, heavy-weight, 1-1/2" belt with leather nearly 1/4" thick for twenty bucks.

Thumbs down from me on customer service from CopsPlus.com, however. Not dishonest, just not well run. My experience was bad enough that I feel it's worth mentioning when the subject comes up.
