Howdy Everyone, I have finally completed my initial journey to be coming a CHL holder. I have been wanting to pursue my CHL for some time, but life and complacency has gotten the better of me.

Here is my timeline that started back in August.

Aug 31st Application Submitted
Sept 18th Fingerprints complete
Jan 12 Class
Jan 14 Paperwork Faxed to DPS

I made my application via my Ipad I would not recommend this unless you are setup to print from it. At the time I had no way to print the CHL checklist/barcode or the Fastpass for Morphotrust.
Since i was unable to print my checklist/barcode I called the DPS help-desk and the person i spoke with told me to just make sure my application number and DL number was on all paperwork provided
as well as the coversheet for the fax and he told me since my application had been on file since Aug he recommended faxing the paperwork to DPS so that is the reason I submitted via fax.

I am normally a patient guy but I have a feeling this wait is going to kill me.

The wait is tedious but well worth it, you can use this time to start shopping for a good belt and holster if you haven't already done so. Welcome to the forum!

Saw last night that my status online has changed all paperwork received now waiting on background check.

Status update took about 8 days from the day I faxed my completed packet.


Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

Wow that update was fast! Lucky you!

Good stuff. Perhaps faxing documents speeds things up?

1/2/13- Fingerprints done
1/9/13- Handgun safety course and range test complete
1/11/13- Mailed all documents required to DPS with signature confirmation delivery
1/14/13- Document arrives at Austin DPS location
1/??/13- background check


I'm guessing 3 weeks response time for mailed paperwork.

That's about right

It seems like this is moving fairly quickly I just checked and My background check has been completed and my plastic is pending manufacturing I don't know if it is faxing in my docs or the fact that I made my initial application and got fingerprinted so far in advance of taking the class. I was going to take the class right away but my wife's schedule was crazy and i figured if we didn't do it together she wouldn't ever decide to do it. I may have my plastic before i get my supertuck in.

It was exciting to check and see an all green Checklist!

My wife mailed her Documents on the 16th and her status still hasn't updated that docs have been revived.

Plastic in hand 3 weeks fax machine to mailbox.

My wife mailed hers on Jan 16th and just got her first update that they are in the system Friday Feb 1st.
