Outreach/education for legislators

I saw a comment in one of the threads here today, that I wanted to follow up on- but couldn't find it! Traffic around here has certainly jumped, between the 2013 TexLeg and Newtown.
Anyway, it was the idea to have our legislators educated about basic firearms information. Taught by, say, DPS instructors. So lo and behold I found this:

Thanks for posting that... This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I had in mind..
My original thread is over here:

I agree that it's been tough wading through all the chatter here recently.
And I mean that in a good way.

I noted that it was a sheriff's association that was offering the lawmaker training in MA. I would have series misgivings about exactly which group was providing that training in Texas to Legislators. All that glitters is not gold

I agree that we need to be careful about who teaches the class. I would not trust a class taught by HPD or DPS, or probably most of the larger city departments where the chief has not come out strongly in favor of gun rights. The problem is finding a sponsoring organization other than TSRA that is strongly pro-gun AND is recognized by the legislators as an expert in the field. And the legislators might find TSRA to be too biased to be willing to attend.
I would offer to teach the legislators if anyone wants to arrange it. I don't know how many would attend though. I am pretty sure we could get other, better qualified instructors also.
A class for the media might be a good thing also, now that I think about it.

Others? probably. Better qualified? I doubt it.
I hope it all works out. Good Luck.
