Heads up CHLers

Dallas Democratic Rep. Yvonne Davis has proposed a bill that would fire any sheriff for not enforcing gun legislation. It would even fire the sheriff for publicly stating they wouldn't enforce a law. Calling my reps! :mad5

Bill Title: Relating to the removal of a state or local officer for refusing or directing others to refuse to enforce state or federal law.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
relating to the removal of a state or local officer for refusing or
directing others to refuse to enforce state or federal law.

Discretion.

There are many laws I currently refuse to enforce. However, I am extremely limited in my ability to enforce fed law...

But don't let the facts play into this...

Rep. Davis had better be careful; seems to me that there are quite a few LIBERALS who refuse to enforce laws that they apparently don't like. The law she is proposing could end up being a two edged sword (which, in some cases, may not be a bad idea. Funny how Liberals are all for freedom as long as it goes along with what THEY want.

THIS!

The feds have no authority to fire state or local law enforcement. Her bill would be a nullity if it doesn't get laughed out of Congress first.

We need to get someone to draft legislation to automatically recall anyone who proposes stupid, insane, ignorant, unconstitutional, self serving, unethical, or conflict of interest legislation.

Make sense?

Did I forget anything?

Supporters of the 380 sheriffs in 15 states who so far have vowed to defy new state and federal gun control laws claim that legislation is starting to pop up around the nation to fire any state elected or appointed law enforcement official who doesn't obey federal orders.

The first effort emerged in Texas.
Legislation proposed by Dallas Democratic Rep. Yvonne Davis would remove any sheriff or law enforcement officer who refuses to enforce state or federal laws.

What's more, it would remove any elected or appointed law enforcement officer for simply stating or signing any document stating that they will not obey federal orders.
@dcexaminer Sheriffs are elected officials, so another elected official making a law to remove an elected official ... could be an interesting dilemma if the Texas bill which (IIRC?) criminalizes a law enforcement officer assisting a Fed Agent trying to enforce gun control passes

:iagree:

I can see this going sideways all over the place. If this passes, will the locals now be forced to enforce immigration laws? That really puts a crimp in the city of Austin being essentially a sanctuary city.

Here's another thought. How about a law that would remove any elected official for not following the Constitution? That after all is the supreme law of the land, so following it should be paramount.

One interesting point to remember: If such a law were passed in Texas or in other states, it would also apply to members law enforcement who don’t enforce federal immigration law as well as any other federal laws.
I read that earlier somewhere  and had Deja Vu, maybe a second time all over again repeatedly n stuff :biggrinjester:

You would clean out Congress. There's be no one left.

Come to think of it, that's not a bad idea at all.

Can you imagine the cost of ALL the special elections that will be needed, that the counties will have to pay for, if we start tossing these goobers out of Austin???

Austin's homeless population will increase expotentially!!! Dogs and cats will start living together!!! Ohhhhh, the huge manatee!!!

Ehhhhh, I'd just assume leave it to the voters to figure out...If they end up being to informationally challenged, or too stupid to understand what is at stake here, then I dunno...

You know, I always thought the American way of life, with our Constitution, its Bill of Rights was something that wasn't too hard to figure out...Pretty easy to live with...But with all the folks NOT wanting to understand it, and trying to change it, they never even give it a chance in its original form???

Davis has always been a real pill in this state...And those that vote for her are much more worried about "what's in it for us", than truely understanding what they are supporting...I have no more pity for folks that have ambitions (or lack of) like this...

There is no more courage or virtue left in numbers sufficient to make a course correction until we ALL suffer enough at the expense of these ignorant citizenry...

And that is me putting it nicely...

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2013
So is SECTION 2 saying it will be law on 9-1-13 whether it gets the votes needed or not? am I missing something here?

Nevermind... I read it again and it makes sense now

I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God

For 29 years, I never before considered it was going to end up an either or kind of deal :mad5

There is a lot of laughing needs to be done in Congress. Will Rogers said there was no trick to being a humorist when you have to whole government working for you.

I'd not mind laughing all 535 of them out of Congress, start over from scratch, well, maybe except for Cruz, I guess. It'd be a pity to see him go so soon. But the rest of them? Adios!
