How the NRA Won

There's no denying it: The National Rifle Association has won — again. Even though more than 3,000 Americans have died via gun violence since 20 children and 6 adults were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary in December, the NRA has somehow managed to triumph. The victims' families and gun control advocates have lost. Forget an assault weapons ban — or any other serious gun regulation. It's not happening.

This reporter just doesn't get it.

I did some looking through an interactive map via Slate.com which shows the 3000+ number of deaths due to guns since Sandy Hook. You can click on various bodies shown and then look at the source referenced. In the vast majority of cites that I saw, the deaths were due to gang related arguments, suicides and criminals robbing individuals, etc. The implication in all of this is that if strict gun control is passed, these deaths would not have occurred.

Taking guns away from law abiding citizens would do nothing to reduce these numbers, other than perhaps suicides, and someone bent on killing themselves will find another way to do it. Most of those deaths were due to people who never should have had guns in the first place and obviously don't care about the law saying they should not have had a gun. Therefore, new gun laws won't affect them either.....

If kids can't get guns, they won't join gangs. Then they will have time to study more and become honor roll students. When they do find time to take a break from the books, they will need to expel their pent up energy by volunteering at the hospital or building homes for the poor. At least that is how the logic goes.

Apparently his memory of how Obamacare was passed against overwhelming opposition by Americans has completely faded.
