,,,,,,,,needing some information from their Illinois State Police to defend against rape!!!! (Got this off the 1911 Forum)

The ISP's (Illinois State Police) advice for women
For anyone who might have doubted me that this state has absolutely lost it--check this out.

'Quote':
Fighting for your safety may be necessary. However, if you start out fighting you cancel any other options that might be open to you. Since many attacks on women are not sexually motivated, and are designed to degrade and humiliate, talking your way out of it may be easier.

* There is documentation of assailants that left a would-be-victim alone after she told him that she was pregnant and it would kill her baby. (Some

case were women that were too old to even have a baby.)
* Telling an attacker that you have VD or AIDS can discourage him.
* It may sound disgusting, but putting your fingers into you throat and making yourself vomit usually gets results. (This method is not often used except as a last resort.)
* Use your imagination and you can think of others.

The above methods are particularly important if your assailant has a gun or knife, or there is more than one attacker. (Fighting would probably be futile.)

If you must fight

Use of a firearm to protect yourself or property is not recommended.

* Guns stolen from residences are a primary way of getting guns into the hands of criminals.
* Half of all the women that fire a gun trying to protect themselves shoot someone they do not want to, i.e. friend, neighbors, relatives, etc.

Try telling that stuff to any of the female members of my family. You would be apt to get an ear full. They have all been taught to fight any way possible.

They need to send some of those bad boys down here and get a little "Taste of Texas". I don't mean the "supper" kind but moreover the "manners" kind. :leaving :txflag:

This kind of talk sickens me. I don't think I need to stick my finger down my throat.

Your right Venus...Neither do I when I have a Glock to stick down theirs.

Why didnt they say just lay down and play dead (opossum)....maybe the rapist might think we had a heart attack and run away scared. Jeeze

All the above are great answers.

That kind of mentality is not even worth trying to talk to. Obviously they (Illinois State Policce) don't have enough gray matter to comprehend anyting I told them.

What a blatant lie -- coming from the Illinois State Police! It makes you wonder how honest their sworn testimony would be in court, doesn't it?

They're kidding right?

Ladies.... if you put your finger anywhere, make certain it goes right through the Rapists eyeball....and don't stop until you feel it touch the back of his skull!

Note to self: I must remember to get on my knees everyday and thank God that my family lives in TEXAS (where we don't subscribe to such nonsense).

Oh, I wouldn't fight back. That's just a good way to get hurt even worse.

My .45, on the other hand, has no problem with being morally inferior to a bad guy. :)

John Lott has some interesting statistics on fighting back versus not fighting back at his website: http://johnrlott.tripod.com/other/NCVS.html

The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) allows analysts to identify injuries that were inflicted on a victim after he or she fought back ("self-protection measures"), and compare that to injuries inflicted on someone who did not fight back. At the link above, we find the following for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault:

(Much easier to read at the link to Lott's website; I haven't figured out how to format tables on this forum).

Percent Injured after Self Protection Action

Robbery/Assault

Any SP with gun: 7.7%/3.6%

Chased, tried to catch Offender: 9.6%/9.0%

Ran/drove away; tried to: 4.9%/5.4%

Screamed from pain, fear: 22.0%/12.6%

Threatened Offender without weapon: 5.8%/13.6%

No SP measures at all: 23.6%/55.2%

To take one example in plain English: 55.2 % of assault victims who did not defend themselves at all received injuries; only 3.6% of those who used a gun to defend themselves received injuries after using the gun. Using the gun even beat just plain running away.

In short, the ISP is full of it.

Fighting back is by no means a guarantee; you can still get hurt, you can have your gun taken away, you can shoot the wrong person, etc; but chances are you are much better off doing something than nothing to protect yourself.

John Lott is definitely "Da Man" when it comes to defending asinine statements such as those made by the ISP.

Speaking of Lott, though... has anyone seen him in person or on TV? I saw him on Glenn Beck a couple of weeks ago and he's got the scary Romulan thing going on. Strange... ;-)

I volunteered to be a tackling dummy (in a joint military/San Diego County Sheriff Dept. class) while I was in the service in San Diego in my crazy yute back in the 80's...

And had had my bell rung on a regular basis by ladies of 5 foot or less stature...

And even after each class I don't think there was a single female that still didn't ask (Deputies) about carrying a gun to keep from having to do all of that hand to hand stuff they were taught...

Superior minds, attitude and training sure did make for potential unintended outcomes for the criminal community in that area for many years!!!
