American Airlines Center - Dallas Circus

According to Wikipedia, American Airlines Center is owned by City of Dallas. Anybody know if that's accurate? Does security working there know CCW has to be allowed (if it is accurate)? Any personal experience? I'm not interested in a squabble or being a test case today for a family outing.

I don't know and can't help you with your question, but I know that I've often felt very vulnerable walking from an arena or stadium to my car in a parking lot full of people who may have had way too much to drink or are up to no good. I sure do wish our government would think about this in future gun legislation. Nothing like creating soft target zones like arenas, stadiums, and schools.

I've seen 30.06 signs posted there (depending on the event), although they may not ultimately be ultimately enforceable. The Dallas County Appraisal District has several listings for the address, but the main owner appears to be the City of Dallas. I have seen metal detectors and security wanding people, again, it's different for different events. My guess is, that if they found you carrying, even with a CHL, you would not be allowed to enter by security.

I'm not sure about events but regardless of who owns it our how it is signed you can't carry to professional sporting events.

You consider a circus a professional sporting event? Lol, ok. To the point, no they can't legally stop you but that doesn't mean they won't, and they will if they are checking people. I was stopped for a concert, showed Id, explained the situation, and head of security said I don't care what the law is, you aren't carrying.

American Airlines Center has been so sporadic on carrying, I don't even try anymore. Even when it's not a professional sporting event. Sometimes they are using the hand held wands. With it being so hit and miss, It isn't worth the hassle to me. We always park in the lot that is right across the street. Literally a twenty foot walk with cops all over the place. Yeah... It can cost as much as 30 bucks to park there but at least it is only sixty seconds to our vehicle.

Went there to the circus last night. Could have carried. There was a guy there with a wand but he wasn't using it. The people checking people's bags/purses were merely taking a quick glance, if that. Seats are so narrow I wouldn't be comfortable with it anyway.

Personally, I never would have thought of the circus as a sporting event. Doesn't there have to be an element of competition for it to be a sporting event?

The narrow seat thing is crazy at that place. Some engineer figured out they could throw x number extra seats in the place if they subtracted 4 inches off each seat...LOL. I am not exactly a thin guy myself and if I happen to be sitting next to a fellow fatty, we are both in trouble! Hope the Circus was fun! I haven't been to a circus since the kids were little. No grand kids yet!

It isn't a sporting event. Legally, you could carry in this situation. But... is it worth the hassle? How long would a person have to spend negotiating with security personal or cops who don't know the rules and don't care? Meanwhile, the family all stands there worrying about pops getting them all kicked out of the circus and ruining the big evening. YMMV but for me, it isn't worth the hassle. Yep... in some situations I just accept my beat down.

Circus was fun but it's not like the circuses of the 1980's (or even 90's) when I took my kids. Much smaller. Fewer performers who aren't quite as good. I would guess it was only half full last night for their final performance here in Dallas (this season).

The AAC is owned and operated by:
And Center Operating Company is:

a partnership owned by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks.
Seems to me that, although public funds were used to help build the facility, it is NOT publicly owned. It's a private company. I'd be happy to find that I'm wrong on this and that they cannot (legally) restrict me from carrying at a concert, but that seems to not be the case. Is this location posted 30.06? I don't find them on texas3006.com .

If you look up the address on the DCAD website, about 11 different owners pop up. Whatever the 'Center Operating Group' owns is valued at $29,160. The portion that has the city of Dallas listed as the owner is worth $199,084,260, which I suppose is the property and the majority of the building, but I don't actually know how this all fits together, though.

Now that I've looked a little closer, all the owners besides the City are listed as "Business Personal Property" accounts. The City's account is the only one listed as 'Commercial.'

I had to turn off the BPP check box to find that..

Now to decide whether to just carry and see what happens, or rock the boat and send an email....
