Three masked armed robbers decided to kill anyway after getting customers on the floor. Happened at 11 PM. This is not a bad area of Houston.

I worked a couple of blocks from that Denny's back in the early 90's. I prepared for the CPA exam at that restaurant. The area always seemed pretty normal and decent to me.

I remember being in that area at night was an excellent way to end up with a gun in your face. Evidently that has not changed.
Restaurant near a major freeway, yep sounds like a good location for a robbery.
Seems robbers are picking on Dennys recently.

I am curious as to why the customer was shot. Did they just shoot for no reason or did the customer put up some kind of defense? Article is to vague to know. Tragic regardless.

I'll bet.
Whole areas of the city have been radically transformed. Some places where 20 years ago you wouldn't want to go
with a gun are now some of the most desirable.
Allen Parkway Village? Gone. The area is now high-end condos and office buildings.
Sixth Ward? Completely transformed by urban renewal.
Fourth Ward? The same.
Even the infamous Third Ward is nowhere near as bad as it used to be.
This particular Denny's is on Washington Avenue at I-10 tight where Memorial, the Heights and the Sixth Ward meet.

You may be right. My memory goes back a bit for Houston areas. I hear tell they're putitng in some new fangled freeway loop (Beltway something or something) where you have to pay tolls, but everyone knows everything outside of 610 is just farm country. ;)

Freeway location yes, easy on easy off, can disappear into freeway in seconds. South side of the freeway being gentrified. North side still mainly industrial then being gentrified. Million dollar townhouses within a mile of there.
Sounded like employee was shot and killed. Robbers have a tendency to shoot at the doors after they leave to make sure no one gets the license plate number. "don't anybody try and follow us as we leave or we will shoot you" This may have been what happened. Don't know.
A friend was robbed at a nice restaurant on Westheimer near Kirkwood a few years back. They went from table to table with a bag demanding wallets purses and cellphones. When the left they fired a few shots into the transom of the front door from outside just to make sure heads stayed down and no one was a hero.

				Scary scenario there.
You want my wallet is one thing. You want to shoot all the witnesses is a different story.

When was the last time you went shopping for clothes or food in a vacant lot? Like you'd go to a store to buy things you want, thugs pick the better parts of town to commit robbery. Sad that someone lost their life & another was injured. Hope HPD can make quick work of this.
