New CHL LegislationThe information below is a brief summary of CHL-related bills passed by the 83rd Texas Legislature.

House Bill 48
Effective: Sept. 1, 2013
Relating to the procedure where a person may renew a CHL.

Eliminates the requirements for CHL holders to complete a renewal course, or demonstrate proficiency, to renew the license.
CHL holders will continue to have an option to submit the renewal application online.

Welcome to the forum.

I read the post you reference but I dont read anything that says a renewal course is no longer required. I have my paperwork ready and called to schedule a class at TopGun in Houston. The person who answered the phone states that the renewal class is no longer required. That is what led to my post after I looked it up. The change was effective 1 Sept, 2013 am I missing something?

I'm sorry. Posted the wrong link (darn bifocals LOL). Here is a good topic to review http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=67403" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And you do not have to take a class any longer. Just go online and you can renew your CHL.

Also, there is an update and DPS is still allowing the one year grace period for your renewal (license is not valid after expiration until you receive the new license, but you don't have to go take the class again within a year).

Welcome to the Forum.

I hope the others will not blame you for some of my posts, and vice versa! Not much difference between jallen and jallenl, especially for those with danged bifocals. :mrgreen:

The mustache and the cowboy hat might set you two apart, maybe.

Thanks for all the help, had old paperwork from the end of July . Found the FAQ on the DPS website that says to ignore the requirements for the training cert.

Do you have a link to this FAQ? I've been looking for it. I also paid my renewal application fee a few months ago, and was going to schedule my course this week... so this is good news. However, I don't know what to send in for renewal. I have the "Checklist" which has my paid SKU at the top, and a blank CHL-100 (certificate of training form). Do I send that form in with just my name filled in at the top?

You only need to mail the checklist by itself.
