I submitted my instructors renewal online the other day. I received an email back stating I needed to send in my NRA cert (that I only knew needed to be done from TXCHLForum) and my BOC documents...again.
WHY?
Why do I have to submit my BOC documents every time I renew? Can't they keep this on file or put a check by it in their computer that says "we've seen his documentation and he's OK"? It's not like I can be born somewhere else.
Maybe it is not that big of a deal but they keep my fingerprints, not supposed to, but they must since renewals do not require fingerprints. They use my DL picture, which is relatively current but won't be in a few years (reference my wife's DL photo) but I have to send them a copy of my paperwork, 50 years old, typed on a military typewriter with a bad ribbon on cheap paper. I've made several copies so I don't have to handle the frail paper, which has holes and tears in it already, any more than I have to but the bad print doesn't get any better with each copy, or copy of a copy.
I've even sent them a copy of my passport, which should be easy to pull up and see all my documentation.
I just don't get it.

NRA Instructor certifications expire, so they need to know you still are currently an instructor to meet the regulations when you renew. As for your BOC documents, that I could see that they shouldn't need them.troglodyte wrote:I submitted my instructors renewal online the other day. Re: I can't be born somewhere else
I'm in kind of the same boat, or was, with my proof of live birth document from having been born overseas (Morocco). I had to dig up the aging paper and carefully photocopy it so that I could send it in to DPS when I first applied for a CHL. But when I renewed this last time, I specifically asked if I was going to have to send that in again, and I was told that they had it on file, so I didn't have to provide it again.
So I am curious as to why they would need you to resubmit your 50 BOC, if you have already provided it to them several times.
Maybe try talking to your state representative?

Re: I can't be born somewhere else
I don't have any qualms with the NRA cert. Just that I have never heard from the DPS it was needed until after I sent in my application. Communication is the issue I'm confused about.
TAM, I may try talking to them. I asked them about it once before and they said I had to submit it but I didn't ask this time. Maybe something changed. But if it changed why can't it change in their database?
Just a little frustrated. I've got enough going on without having to guess at what the DPS wants, is going to schedule, or digging around for documents they have seen several times.

'Scuse me fellas.
What is this BOC? All I can find by Googling the term is Bank Of China.

Born Out of Country.
Some of us didn't get dropped on the fertile soil of Texas but we got here as quick as we could. Actually I think my mom had a jar of Texas dirt and sprinkled it on me shortly after birth to "baptize" me.

Re: I can't be born somewhere else
Ya, When I renewed my CHL I had to reprove I was a Vet, in the last 4-5 years I somehow could have stopped being an honorable Vet. When I got my first CHL I sent in the wrong version of my DD-214, so I sent them a letter I get from the VA every year that says I have a service connected disability and was honorably discharged. So this year I cut to the chase and just sent this year's letter with my app but nope not good enough.

Thanks Trog I know some folks who were in Noo Joisy when their kid was born. She had her mom send her some Texas soil for the same reason.troglodyte wrote:Born Out of Country.
