This is just my opinion. However the EPA is a tyrannical, grasping, unconstitutional entity that exists for only one resason. To usurp the power of the legislative branch and to hand it to the executive branch. It should be immediately dissolved or turned into reporting agencies only with no police powers whatsoever.

Unfortunately, there are several of the other "alphabet" agencies at the Federal level about which the exact same thing could be said. Sometimes, it is State power, not Federal Legislative power that is being usurped.

I was under the impression that lead for batteries constituted almost 90% of the primary (lead ore) demand in the US.
And that ammunition production is not a typical user of lead ore.
Bullets are most often made from recycled batteries or other sources, but not from lead ore.

Can anyone clarify or expand on the primary source of lead for ammunition?

I don't like the EPA and any way, shape or form. But I do want to understand the correct picture in light of the closure.

All of a sudden, 22 bucks for a box of target ammo doesn't sound high! We just got "back doored" by Obama.

the executive branch is not supposed to legislate. So it is an agency that legislates (makes rules and laws without the approval of the legislative branch) then it needs to go entirely or be turned into a reporting agency transferring their work load and police powers to localities. My husband has been finishing his degree in criminal justice....holy cow we are in trouble. We are inches from a out and out tyranny.....usurpation after usurpation has been committed by both sides and needs to be fixed or we will go down the toilet like so many other great civilizations.

Gun owners can rest easy about one aspect of President Obama’s agenda. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decision to close the country’s last remaining lead smelter will not cause further ammunition shortages or higher costs.

Lawrence Keane is the senior vice president and general counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which represents the ammunitions and firearms industry.

“Manufacturers use recycled lead to make ammunition. They don’t buy from smelters,” Mr. Keane told me Monday. “The EPA closing, which has been in the works for a while, will have no impact on production, supply or cost to the consumers."

I hope that's true, but I find it hard to believe that removing a major supply stream for a commodity will have no impact on availability or price of products made from that material.
