warm barrel affecting accuracy

My friend bought a Henry 30 30 rifle and we took it out to sight it in. We noticed that the barrel started getting warm after a few rounds. I know that heating of the barrel can affect accuracy, This is a standard round barrel and we were shooting at 50 and 100 yards with a scope from a rest. We never got better than 4-5 inch groups at 100 yards, but we only had one box of ammo with us, and we wasted several shots getting on paper. so, my question is: how much would you expect the heating of the barrel to affect the poi?

Just a guess, but probably much less than 4-5 inches.
This article suggests that you need to break in the barrel to achieve maximum accuracy so don't consider your efforts a waste of several shots, but part of the break-in process.

Also how good of rest are you shooting on and are you sure you didn't jerk any shots? I know when I want to make darn sure my rifle is on and grouping right I use my Lead Sled.
