It sounds like they had some previous problems. The home owner had a protective order against the intruder.

Yeah. This one may get interesting. Maybe a daughter involved?

Prior arrest for misd assault and a epo issued soundslike family violence. His ex boy or girl friend probably resides there.

Some more information:
According to Knox and Cedar Hill officials, Slaven broke in through a bedroom window using a tree branch shortly before midnight at Long’s home in the 1300 block of Stoney Creek Drive. The brick home is down a long private driveway with a sign that states “no trespassing.”
Long told his attorney he and his wife were asleep when they heard a loud bang and realized an intruder had broken in. Long retrieved his handgun and went to investigate. He discovered a wet stranger dripping in the hallway outside his bedroom.
Knox said Long told the intruder, whom authorities identified as Slaven, that he had a weapon and repeatedly asked him to leave before shooting the man.
Cedar Hill city spokesman Corky Brown said the investigation has supported Long’s account.

Previous posts kinda confused me. I beleive the protective order is at the mayor's home where he had an altercation...correct? Sounds like a bad deal all the way around, I wonder why he decided to pick on the neighbors this time.

"According to court records, Slaven wasn't supposed to be at either home. The Morning News reports that he was arrested on November 25 for violating a protective order after showing up at the mayor's home and attempting to persuade his sister to let him in."

The protective order is not associated with the home owner. Looks like it was issued on behalf of the Mayors family.

I reread the article and you appear to be correct.
Maybe the order was for both the Mayor and the neighbor?
