It's important to note the buff gym owner/Homeowner grabbed wasp spray to take the BG out, after awaking from his dogs barking and growling. It didn't work and neither did the baseball bat. The wife had to run and get a knife and stab BG before he was stopped. Oh and it appears the MIL was involved with the fight as well.
Major power struggle going on and it took several different ways to take the BG out. I'm not interested in close combat. That's all I got to say about that.

Very poorly written article. Very strange circumstances.
Glad deceased won't be doing that again.

I couldn't imagine having to defend myself or my family with a steak knife. My steak knives barely cut some of the steaks I've had to deal with over the years. Very strange incident but glad it ended well, if stabbing someone repeatedly for survival in a fight with a steak knife could be considered ended well. Knife fights are very up close in your face and personal.
I wonder what this families views on firearms were before the incident and if anything has changed.

I see a lot of counseling in this family's future.

Investigators don't believe the residents know the intruder and there's nothing to indicate why the house was attacked. There's no marijuana growing in the home, for example, West said.
Wait, what?
No marijuana growing in the home!?? Where did that come from? Is that the only reason criminals break into homes in Washington? Hoping to score a plant or two?
'We have not seen anything that would explain why this house was targeted,' she said.
Was it not mentioned over and over in that story that they believed the guy was there for an abduction of the wife and or sexual assault that he planned to video with a camera and tripod in his pocket? How do you stick a tripod in your pocket?
As jmra previously stated, very poorly written article.

re: wasp spray/baseball bat/steak knives
Several sources on the internet have advised wasp spray in lieu of pepper spray. Some law enforcement personnel have advised this as well. From the sound of this is doesn't work. The baseball bat broke? That was some tough dude or, one flimsy bat. I wouldn't put my trust in just any old bat get an aluminium bat. A steak knife is pointed a butter knife isn't neither would be my first choice. I would go for the chef knife.
That is all.
