{snip}
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A pizza delivery driver shot and wounded two robbers last night, and that delivery driver is also a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy.

my question is why is someone only a deputy after 25 years with the HCSD? and why don't they pay him enough to where he doesn't have to work as a pizza delivery guy on the side????

He's retired and now a reserve deputy and can only hold the rank of deputy nothing else

That is right across the street from my kid's High School. Gives me a chance to remind them of a few things and make it seem real, and closer to home.

Any bets on if Domino's fires him for violating company policy?

Not in HCSO. They have all the ranks from Sgt, Lt, up through a reserve chief.

Apparently Dominos is a little more flexible than Walmart in terms of corporate policy.

In a north Texas sheriff's office where I lived the "reserves" were full deputies working part time and ranks went up to captain.

Additionally, even if he wasn't retired and full time, many a leo stays at the officer/deputy level because they like what they do and where they work.

I dunno about the cop business, but I was a supervisor in the military for a long time. It would not surprise me that if he was a career guy with 25 years he probably held some supervisory posts along the way, and when he came back as reserve, did it on the condition that he not have to do any supervisory tasks ever again, just be a regular patrol guy. :mrgreen:
