7 slain at Chicago eatery, jury awards murderer 500K

He got punched by a guard at the jail after he was arrested. Oh the seven people at the restaurant, some were shot with a gun free Chicago gun, some were stabbed.

Any $$ collected should go first to the families of the victims, then to the state to defray the cost of his incarceration.

and the jury should be jailed as well.... this would be a great example of jury nullifacation

The jury wasn't told of the murders, only that this happened in jail.
According to what I read....
Also.... it is quite possible, IMO, that this piece of trash was, in fact, violated in prison and deserved to face his assailant in court. I just don't think he should be able to keep any awards for damages.

That is when you immediately file a lawsuit against the suspect. When I was sued for a fatal OIS, I was going to do just that do to the stress it was causing me, but they realized they had no case and dropped their suit....

"We were only allowed to say he (Degorski) was convicted of murder. ... It wasn't explained to them how vicious this guy was," Winters said about jurors in the civil case.
Jurors knew he was convicted of murder.
Seems the only winners here are the lawyers.
