Second one in a couple of days. I believe if I lived out in a lonely spot in the country I would have a few very mean, very large dogs around the house!

Good motion activated flood lights also make a difference. Years ago my BIL decided he wanted to know when someone was coming up his driveway. He set up a system with motion detectors that caused a lamp in his living room and his bedroom to flash on and off several times. You couldn't get anywhere near his house without him knowing you were there.

I've found that it's easier to own large mean looking / sounding dogs... Dogs that actually are mean are too much liability... But I think you're right, they are a great way to get filtered as a home invasion target.

It was a very weird feeling when we spent the first few weeks at our new place out here in rural ranch land - everybody around us is mostly on 20 to 200 acres of land and nobody has any idea of what's happening to your neighbor. Being so rural was actually the impetus for me getting a CHL and I carry every waking hour here and it provides me with a great peace of mind. Confronting somebody out here would be a very dangerous situation for the bad guys.
